2001 CL S-type - check engine/VSA/SRS lights on

OK, so I'm new to this forum, but have read a number of the posts on various issues and this looks like a great place to get advice. Here's hoping some of you can lend me a hand in diagnosing my car.

I have a 2001 CL S-type with 136,000 miles. Just bought it. It has a salvage/resoration title (happened around 100k miles). I do not know if the transmission has ever been replaced or not. Is there a way to find out if Acura has aready done this? If not, any way they'll do it at this point?

I have noticed slipping/revving in 3rd gear, and the check engine light has been on for a week. The VSA lights (both) come on occasionally, usually only when I'm running the A/C, and if I turn the car off then back on, they go away until a few miles down the road. Also, the SRS light has been on since right after bought it (go figure!).

Anyway, I took it to AutoZone on Friday to have the codes read, and this is what I got:

P0420 - Catalyst efficiency below threshold (bank 1)
P0740 - TCC circuit malfunction
P0730 - Gear ratio incorrect

Can some of you knowledgeable folks out there give me an idea of what I'm up against before I take it in?

P0420 may indicate bad O2 sensor. SRS throws in codes bc of OPDS system faults - its either seat belt buckle or sensor implemented inside back of passanger seat - there was a recall for it but since you have salvage car you re not eligible for any recall or warranty. VSA and rest of codes are for transmission - its gone!. Check your part number sticker - near front engine mount - if it has RM extension - it is a honda reman. ... but still warranty was 7yr 100k. We now go with used trannys from 05-06 tl, v6 accord or odyssey. Do not even bother rebuilding it!

Thanks, celynka. So, the 05-06 tranny's will work on the '01 CL? I guess that's better than buying a new one. What should I expect to pay for one?

Just did mine 2 weeks ago. I paid $700 for mine and replaced myself. Just look @ thread : "cl-s 2006 tl transmisson swap project" or " another solution for my auto cl-s" and see for yourself

Can I ask what your experience has been with the Acura/Honda remanufactured tranny's? Did you go through it multiple times? How many miles? Also, did you get a warranty on the new tranny? Happy with the results?

Never installed reman myself, but some guys replaced 2,3 or even 4 trannys @ various mileages. Mine went out @ 59k but was ready to b replaced @ 50k ... but it is pointless to rebuild you still get the same junk you got now - bad design . 3rd gear clutch pack does not get enough oil flow + overlaps shifts with 2nd gear - desintegrating 3rd cp. Acura installs rebuild tranny + new ECM with shift delay between 2-3. Some say post 2004 rebuilds are better , but still I would not pay 3.5 k for a pos rebuild when you can get - proven - longer lasting 05-06 tranny 4 couple of hundreds. If you decide to go with dealer or AAMCO - YES they do give warranty on their jobs

Smile My Acura 2001 Cl Type S

have a Acura Cl Type S with 202759 for mileage on it. It is displaying the "SRS" light on the dash constantly for the past week. When i checked the code, it read 5-3 and flashed on and off a few times?

Anyone know what this code means?

Thanks
