20% or 35% tint?
Hello.
I am considering to tint all windows. My question is about the rear view mirror. It is already tinted. If the rear window gets 20% tint, is it too dark to drive at night or bad weather? What about the 35%? Can you guy tell me about the tinted window?
Thanks.

How well lit are the roads in your area and how are the cops/tint laws?
I had 18% tint on my Prelude and it was a bitch to drive at night if the road doesnt have any streetlights. I have 35% on the rear windows (50% up front; legal for VA) and I can see fine in the CL. Of course, the darker tint does look better, but I wouldnt change a thing on my CL because of how the roads are lit in my area (plus my driveway has a weird curve in it which makes it a pita to back out of).
Also, if youre mostly worried about UV rays and heat blockage, a high quality, higher percentage tint will perform better then low quality, dark tint.

I live in Florida, and I've always had 5% on all my cars except the current one, i have 20% and its not dark enough for me.
As far as you being able to see out of the back, 20% will be just fine...gl

In Illinois 20% is ok legally. I would go with 35%.
How about the quality of the flim? There are two brands, 3M and Gila. Of course 3M has better reputation and higher price compare to the Gila. However I can get the Glia's highest quality flim (around $15/roll) at the local autozone anytime. Does 3M work far better than Gila?
Thanks.

Hate to say it, but as far as tint goes, if its sold at Auto Zone it probably isnt the greatest. I forget the brand mine is, but its pretty good and seems to be scratch resistant unless you really try to damage it.

I got the tint on the last weekend. It is 35% all round except the front windshield. I paid $140 with tax. The film was Johnson. My CL is looking good but the rear view is a little too dark since the room mirror is already tinted.
Thanks.
Thanks.

35% is great, I've been followed by cops 1000 times, and they've never messed with me. The one time I was pulled over for something else, cop made me roll up my windows, and said my tint was "fine" and "not that dark"

I have 18%. I see fine from the rear because i have reverse cam. If i didn't have that I would have done 35% (legal in NC). My neighbor is a local police officer and he's never commented about it. Prob because i'm a good person in general and looks out for me if I ever need anything even if its to pick up something from the store when he's going lol.
What you could do is do 35% on the rear window & 18% on doors because at night I can't see out the back window.

I think my mirror is broken. It has some sign of oil licking, so it doesn't get darker or anything. Is there any DIY for replacing the mirror? Many guys said it is simple but I couldn't find any instruction.

I did 35 on the door and 20 around the back and really like it. I have no problems seeing at night, but the car looks 100% better! I'll try and post some pics... Gotta wash the monster first tho. =P
