Tired of losing things in your trunk?
I take no credit for this, as I got the idea from "the other" site.
Sorry for the horribly blurry pics as I lost my tripod mount () and trying to hold the camera steady while on a slow shutter speed is a pain in the ass.
One of the things that irritated me about my car is horribly dim trunk light. The guys from the other site (which shall remain nameless since I dont want to get banned) posted this. Im not going to do a complete write up as it is rediculously simple.
You start out with this:
Its a CCFL kit made for a computer. I got it for $9 shipped on ebay. Just search for 12" CCFL kit and you should get plenty of results.
I took out the light from the trunk:
Removed the bulb then soldered the two wires that I cut from harness that came with lights to the light housing and covered them with plasticoat for protection:
This it what it should look like now:
Then found a good spot to install them in the trunk.
Before:
After:
I think it was $9 well spent. I wanted LEDs but this just seemed easier. It took me all of 30 minutes to do everything.
For those that decide to do this, the terminal with the diode on the light housing is the positive connection.

Indeed it is. And one thing I noticed, even with the old bulb, is when you pop the trunk the third brake light lights up slightly. With the old bulb its not as noticable, but with the CCFLs it is noticable. What you see in the after pic isnt a glare, its the CCFLs illuminating it.
I dont know if its by design or just a coincedence.

Saw this thread and I laughed, I did this mod to my wife's CL before I moved from NJ to Cali. She complained that the original trunk light was too dark, so I went into my parts bin for my watercooled pc and I happened to have an extra set of white CCFl's.
On a side note - Diddy are you looking for someone who's going to dyno tune your S/C? If so, I can hook you up with the shop that dyno tuned my buddy's STI. LMK

i'm guessing you mounted them up high under the rear window (based on the shadows)? do you think you could get away with just 1 bulb (if they even sell them this way)?

You just cant post names of other forums on acurazine. It automatically gets censored.
Im gonna try this except use 1-24 white LED strip. That seems way bright and with the LEDs, theres no inverter. Props on the mod though, i've seen someone do this in person and it looks awesome.

Cool. The exposure wasnt super long when I took those pics, its not that bright, but its not dull. If I can find me tripod Im going to try taking the pic again and get the outcome as close to in-person as possible.

Not sure if they come that way, all the kits I've bought always have 2 bulbs. If you live by a Microcenter you can check them out in person.
