'01 CL - Slow progress thread

Got my 2001 Acura CL off my brother for $4500 at 135k miles and it was a great buy. Tranny is going strong somehow. No record if it's been swapped yet but the car is closing in on 145K miles now. I hope to put in Eibach front and rear sway bars, Eibach 2" lowering springs, and DC sports headers by the end of the summer. Currently there is an AEM CAI and a quad exhaust on it and it sounds pretty good to me. I was curious if headers would ruin the sound though so I'm hesitant on the headers... Anyway, here are some pictures of it now. Along with my car, there is my dad's '69 Chevelle SS (matching numbers, flowmaster exhaust, 396 motor)

'01 nbp cl

Washed and waxed my car for a car meet tonight. I can't wait to put more upgrades in the car but right now, its going strong at 147k miles and no tranny issues.

Headers just made it a little deeper And louder. I like the way it sounds now With the headers

Unfortunately I can't get headers on my car because of California laws... And I'm not dropping $1200 for Comptechs simply because I don't make enough lol DC sports definitely need a Cali-Legal header...

Smog is a pain in the ass. See that Chevelle though? My dad gets to put headers in it because his car is older than '73( I believe thats the law) so he doesn't have to test. I could get people to pay it off but I tend to have a problem holding in a guilty conscience.

That's a pretty sweet Chevelle, don't know how I missed it. There is a guy in my neighborhood that has one of the ones with the 454 in it. It is all original with matching numbers. Never see it though because he leaves it covered in his garage 99% of the year.

haha very nice. Yeah the chevelle is parked in the garage at least 6 days out of the week.

Anyways, the CL just hit 146k miles now and its still running strong. After talking to my brother about the car and the work done to it I found out that it was already lowered, the transmission was changed at 60k miles (so I'm glad its still going strong now), and I'm glad I got it. I'm probably only going to put in Eibach sway bars (or just a rear comptech sway bar, whichever you guys recommend since I'm still learning about cars), maybe new tweeters, 10" sub, and amplifier, and I'm going to get an M5 style spoiler (probably the cheap ebay one that is color matched knowing how cheap I am). Basically keep the car handling well and looking classy yet sporty.

Get the eibach rear bar. It's thicker then the Comptech bar. Might as well grab Moog endlinks at the same time. The oem endlinks usually have to be cut off.

Everyone says don't get the front sway bar but I did and it makes a difference. One of our moderators fsttyms1 who has tracked his car car several times was able to knock a few seconds off his lap times. I will agree with gnuts on the moog endlinks, I just ordered them for all four corners. Also you can get headers for a little more performance. I got dc sport headers for 300$ and what a difference it made.

Stephen is right but for what you need the rear bar will be great. Lowered with a rear sway bar makes a huge difference

According to my brother, the front suspension is different than the rear? It looks different. The rear looks like it has a spring and shocks set up. At first my friends thought it was a coilover set up but it wasn't. Not sure what the front suspension is. All I can tell without the wheel off is that there is a shorter spring in the front. Is it weird to have two different suspension set ups? Well all I know for sure is that I actually have two different sets of tires, dunlop direzzas in the rear, toyo tires in the front. I prefer the direzzas simply because it closes up the fender gap a bit since the toyo's are really low profile. So right now, it looks as if my car is lower in the rear than it is in the front, but by my judgment, its the same ride height or slightly lower in the front. I'll probably just do the rear sway bar to save some cash. All that's on my buy list right now is the UR underdrive pulley, rear sway bar, and one of those M5 style trunk lips. Speaking of those, are the cheap $60 color matched ones decent enough or should I just find one in the black market here?

front springs are different from the rear. Are they the same colour? Take some pics.

Well the suspension is normal so nevermind about that. However, I got some stuff done! Decided to paint my grill and my friend decided to paint the grill on his Audi too so we did that together. Here are the pics.

Came out very well if I do say so myself. I get nothing but good comments about it.
