RETRIEVING THE AUDIO UNIT SERIAL NUMBER
To reduce warranty and customer costs whenever an
anti-theft code is lost, the audio unit’s serial number
can be retrieved without having to remove the unit. To
recall the serial number, follow these steps:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the accessory (I)
position.
2. Turn on the audio unit. Make sure “CODE” appears
on the display.
3. Turn off the audio unit.
4. Press and hold the number 1 and number 6 preset
buttons at the same time, and then turn on the unit.
The serial number will appear in two parts – the first
four digits followed by the last four digits, and then
the sequence will repeat.
5. Enter these eight digits into DCS to retrieve the
antitheft code.
NOTE: If you happen to compare the serial number
on the audio system’s chassis sticker to the
displayed serial number, you will find the first two
digits do not match. The serial number on the
sticker begins with two alpha characters. When
doing an inquiry on DCS, always use “30” followed
by the six-digit serial number.

 

what is the DCS

 

I assume that's the dealer's computer system.

 

oo so u cant do this on your own, u still have to take it to the dealer

 

Yeah... you can get the serial number from the radio yourself, and then the dealer has to look up the radio code using that number for ya.

But you shouldn't have to pay $100 to have your radio removed to get the code off the back.

 

When my battery died, the same thing happpened to me. The dealer just opened the glove box and there was a sticker on the outside side of the box. Bob Howard Acura (OKC) didn't charge me anything for it.

 

I made the same mistake. My glovebox (according to Acura Corporate) is supposed to have the serial number inside, to get the radio code. Unfortunately, no serial number, no code nada. They want $100 here in Houston to remove radio and then more to get code and reinstall radio, all because of dead battery.

Then you have the radio code... call up a dealer, give them the code, and they can give you the antitheft code... if a dealer wants to charge you then try another dealer...

I've got the anti theft code on a little plastic credit card type deal in the front pocket of the case for the owners manual...

Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it so much. Well, early yesterday morning, went to a different Acura dealership (from where car originally was purchased) and the service manager was just arriving. I told him the history of the affair, he immediately popped off the wood colored long strip along side the area than runs down the dash alongside the gear shift and there is the code. He called it in then reprogrammed my radio, free of charge. See? There are good people in the world even at the Acura dealership (just not the so and so's that sold the car originally. So here's an additional place where those numbers are to be found. Thanks members for your ideas and your offers of help!

What dealership was it?

 

Yeah, mine was stuck on the bottom of the pop out tray above the radio. A white sticker w/ a 6 digit code. All I had to do was put those numbers in and the radio came on. If you find that code, the S/N is not necessary. Thanks to everyone that helped. You all saved me a lot of time and maybe a lot of money too.

 

Code is Located on the Outside Left Hand Side of Glove Compartment

 

i think the dealership can also run the vin number to get the code. my local dealership did that to get mine.

 

turn of the radio, hold down 1 and 6, then turn the radio back on,

that should give you the 8 digit serial number of the unit (it'll give you the first 4, then the next 4)

Call the dealer to get the password for that serial number (for FREE)

 

dang all your dealers suck!!!!! i went in told them i had bought the car used so i didn't have any manuals or anything they pulled the radio within minutes and got me the code. Plus since i told them that i bought it used they did a full inspection of my car for free and even offered to wash it.(which i didn't take cause i had to get to class. So i guess its just the people working there i went to sunnyvale acura in cali the service guy was really helpful he even told me about the tranny problem and that i should get a cooler installed. But i bet if it does fail they'll change it out for free the guys there just seemed that helpful.

There is a site on the internet that will instruct you to get the code off of the radio.Your radio will flash and you count the numer of flashes and it is the serial numbers you need to call the honda deal for your code.It flashes these numbers on the face of your radio and no need to remove it. I was sceptical..but it worked great...they didnt tell me that when I called to get a price to reset it !

 

Just went through the same thing. You can even get the code from MYACURA.com, just have to verify that you own the vechicle. It also wont work if your info isnt updated with a Acura rep..

 

I don't like the fact that some dealerships will give you the code for free, and some charge 98 bucks. That would be interesting research: i could call all of the acura dealerships in the Phoenix area asking what they charge for the code, the cheapest bid will be my new service department recipient.
