Very dissappointed with Dyno Today!

Well I finally got my car dyno'ed at Currys Auto here in Sterling VA with not so great results.

The humdity was pretty much almost 100% all day and the temp was about 60 deg. They use a MUSTANG DYNAMOMETER SAE Corrected. I have Comptech Icebox and Header both installed about 1500 miles ago. Car currently has 49k and I only use Mobil One Syn oil.

After 3 pulls best was 208.3 whp and 185.8 wtq.

The graph they print out pretty much sucks, but they include a sheet with RPM numbers which is kinda cool. Here is the run down: I typed up 200 rpm increments instead of the 100rpm increments the dyno sheet shows. Here and there I I skipped an increment to save me from typing the whole that damn thing.

RPMS HP TQ
2500 89.37 183.41
2700 95.08 183.97
2900 100.98 182.74
3100 107.29 181.66
3300 113.45 180.58
3500 118.13 177.30
3700 126.29 179.32
3900 134.50 180.92
4100 141.72 181.58
4300 148.72 181.51
4500 156.11 182.18
4700 164.71 184.03
5000 174.59 183.37
5200 181.12 182.92
5500 193.63 184.98
5700 201.52 185.64
5900 206.38 183.71
6000 208.32 182.31
6200 207.63 175.88
6400 206.31 170.48
6500 205.55 167.96

I have read the MUSTANG dyno's usually run lower numbers, but this low with headers and intake?? I dont know what gear they did it in since i wasnt present when they did the runs. I will call tomorrow and ask. Does something seem wrong with these numbers. I was hoping to at least have 225whp!!

What was the correction factor?

Dyno numbers at the wheels by themselves don't mean shit when comparing to other dynomometers. You need the correction factor.

I guess I will call them tomorrow and ask specifically what correction factor they used and what gear they did the dyno in. I asked earlier but they only told me SAE Corrected but didnt give me a actual correction factor number.

Mustang dynos show consistently lower numbers than Dynojets. I dyno'd in the 240whp range w/ the S/C and HBP on a Mustang dyno and yet ran 13.4@105 in the 1/4. The true test is to just go run the 1/4 mile.

that looks about right for a mustang dyno. i bet you if you got it on a dynojet it would read in the neighborhood of 230whp. unless there is something wrong with your car.

IIRC usually Mustang dynos are about 10% lower then Dynojet #s. In that case you'd be putting down close to 230whp which sounds about right.

We dynoed Blades car (my old CLS) today and was kind of shocked with the results also.
AEM CAI, CT Headers, Greddy Evo B pipe and HKS Mufflers, and the best she did was 218 to the wheels. I was hoping for at least 225-230. It was humid and hotter than hell. I got creative on the last run, and pulled the intake filter off and took the foglight out and had one of the dyno fans blowing directly into the intake tube, which bumped it up from ~208, to 216.

Do you have the actual plot line, because those interval numbers arent always the 100% peak number.

You guys are nuts!!! 230 from a N/A automatic with only I/H?!

I had every N/A mod under the sun (except the UR pulley at the time) and only put down 227whp. That includes I/H/E/Tuned UniChip/Thermostat/etc.

220 is the MOST i'd ever expect to see out of a I/H automatic J32A2.

Yeah I'm sure if I added the UR pulley i'd pick up the 10-12whp as advertised. My 227whp number was without the UR pulley I based the estimated whp gain on the consistant increase of 1-2 MPH in my trap speeds after I added the UR pulley. Went from a best of 98.5 MPH... then added the Unichip and UR pulley and I ran 101 MPH with a average of 99-100 MPH.

Blue, not sure which type of Dyno it was, he has the plots, so I will look at them tonight hopefully and report back. He or I may start another thread about the reults along with the scanned plots.
