Z06 vs Viper

A friend from work just bought a brand new 2002 Red Corvette Z06. Great car, looks as sweet as all the others on the road. We got into a discussion comparing his car to the Viper. Being 30 or so grand more the Viper has in my opinion, one up on the Vette.

Does anyone remember what magazine/web site did the comparison of the Z06 and Viper?? I want to read up on it again.

Also what are some of your thoughts on Z06/Viper comparision?

On a side note, two weeks after buying the car it was in the shop cuz it was leaking oil all over the place. He had to drive around in a Cavilar for quite awhile. A definate humbling experience.

I was driving around town one weekend when there was a Z06 next to me at the light. A guy on a motorcycle pulled up and started talking to the Z06 owner. Turns out his car has been in the shop 3 times within the first 9k miles. He had starter problems once, and problems with bent valves twice. (He thinks the second problem with the bent vavles was because the dealership didn't fix it properly the first time.)

personally I'd go ZO6 i don't like the looks of the new Viper I never have liked the Viper. when they came out with one of the first V-10 i thought that thing would have CRAZY HP(like 500 hp) it only had 300 or low 300's(which kind of disappointed me)(cause if you do a few mods to the CL-S you can hit 300 hp OUT OF A V-6 )(grant it will out torque you but still 300 HP out of 10 cylinder is LAME) but as far as Z06 405 out of small block that's dang good in my opinion

I'd take the Z06 anyday. It's more streetable then the Viper, has a bit more room, is cheaper, & I think it looks better. I have driven an old first generation Viper, & I have driven a 2002 Z06. Z06 all the way.

I don't remember the Viper ever having less than 400 hp. By your logic you should have never bought a CL. When the CL first came out it was a 4 cylinder with less than 140hp. It took the corvette nearly 50 years to get 405 hp out of a 350. If you consider a Winston cup car gets 700 hp from a 358 that isn't to good. I know I'm comparing race cars to street cars, but you see what I mean. Don't get me wrong I love the Corvette. Ijust didn;t understand your comparisons

Water-S: Actually the original Viper with the 7.0L V10 had 450 hp and 450 ft/lbs of torque...I always thought that they were bad ass, and then when I road in one, when the driver went WOT, I was thrown back in the seat like never have I ever been before, and the exhaust was a side pipe (this was a 1994 RT/10 with the soft top on) and the exhaust being right next to you was awesomely deafening....even though the V-10 sounds a little weird...not as low grumbly as you would think, i've heard this has to do with exhaust routing, and the issue has been fixed in the new Vipers with a H type pipe??

anyways, not to talk about exhuast, but your original numbers on HP were just a lil off...

Nothing beats the Z06 for the money........I have raced several 01 And 02 Z06s and pull them by 3-4 cars lengths, but I still respect them (best car GM has ever built).

I am pretty sure the first engine was a 8.0 liter V-10 with 400 horse and 400 lbs/ft of tq. Was it something like 7.996 lites?
Is this right?

Yup, Pilot Sports are the chosen footwear for the Viper from the factory.
