Your advice: What car to buy?
Hey all!
In addition to my CL, I have a 2001VW Passat that might as well be bright yellow--if you catch my drift. Anyhow, I'm seriosly contemplating getting rid of it but having a hard time finding " the perfect car".
I'm trying to find something that has adequate horsepower, 4 doors, enough room in the back seat, doesn't cost more than 50 K, and has some utility (hauling capacity), and has proven reliability.
From what I've seen out there, everything is a trade off--especially the rear leg room. Stlying is also another issue as is utility.
I test drove the Honda Pilot--nice SUV in its own right but dealers here in the DC area are marking them up close to $3500 and reasonably equipped with leather ends up being $2,000 less than the MDX. (Hello, Honda--can you say Doh!). The MDX is SOOOOOOOO much better and so much more luxurious than the Pilot--oh and you cannot get a sunroof in the Pilot.
Anyhow, I'd be interested in hearing what you'd consider for a second car (given the requirements above).
Thanks!

these are my favorites...out of these, i'd say my #1 choice is the All-Road (electronic variable suspension, quatro, Audi quality, etc.)...i personally am not a fan of SUV's...i like station wagons much more

My mother-in-law is going to be trading in her Lincoln Navigator for the upcoming Lincoln Aviator. V-8 Power with the same engine as the new Maurader. Great towing capabilities...

They look awsome and got some wicked engines in them. They will now have a third seat in them and they have some serious towing capacity. The one thing American's can do is build some damn good SUV's.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I've actually test driven most of these cars mentioned here. I agree about the RX300. I think I'm leaning more toward the MDX.
The other cars just have too many tradeoffs. Have you guys sat in the back seat of a Pathfinder and its Infinity twin? The back seat is horribly uncomfortable--almost like sitting in one of those little lawn chairs at the beach. The mercedes C class, while nice, is just too much money for what you get. $41 K and no sunroof. THe Mercedes SUV is about the size of a Honda CRV--I was shocked by how small it was inside when I sat in one at the local showroom. Buying a Rangerover is like paying money to guarantee you'll breakdown somewhere--just heard too many bad things about thises cars--and it's smaller inside than the Honda CRV. Audi is upscale VW and has a worse history for reliability--and the A4 is smaller than the Passat (have friends that own a new A4).
Now you see my dilema.

The engine is really nice. 270HP. But for the money, I'd go with the Envoy. The Trailblazer's interior is WAY behind the Envoy with regards to quality, fit and finish. It's almost a joke. The Trailblazers interior looks and feels cheaper than anything I've recently. Unacceptable for an SUV in this price range. Yet the Envoy does not suffer from this problem. Even though they are from the same platform. They are night and day with regards to quality, ride and handling.
I do love the look of the Trailblazer, but I was completely disgusted with it's interior.
$.02
Due some research on the Mercedes ML series. They have been a joke, quality and reliability wise. When compared to the rest of the MB fleet. This SUV has been a big dissapointment for Mercedes, and they're trying desperately to right this.

U guys think the RX300 is feminen? If the MDX wasn't an Acura, u would say the same thing! The MDX is a much better car, but it looks like a van! What sex drives vans, huh?
How about the new Volvo XC90? They look really nice.
