Yet ANOTHER V1 question...

considering the fact that V1 has software upgrades and such, is now a good time to buy 1??? i mean, it always seems that when u buy something, a month later there's something new and improved...and for $450, i'm not looking to upgrade, u know?? so with the current setup (smaller box, latest upgrades), is there anything else that will b forthcoming which is worth waiting for???

Ok "I believe" the v1 web page has a s/n input location and they tell you needed upgrades / cost for your current unit. I have had mine for 1.5 years and the last time I checked they recommended not to make the upgrade. Check the v1 page they are very fair about making upgrades. I don't know if the other co. do the same service.

i understand what the page offers, however it is not my intention after spending $450 to spend MORE money on upgrades...but if u're saying that after 1.5 years, u haven't had to upgrade, then that sounds reasonable...i was primarily worried that if i buy now, next week there will b an improved software package available that's a better version, and i'd need to spend another $50 on the upgrade

scooter,

No worries bro. Updates don't come out that often. The last major update was right before i bought mine and that was abotu 1.5 years ago. They mad the case smaller and had some software updates. You should be good for a while and with power of the Z in your hands you're going to NEEEEED a v1

My unit is from June 2000 and after checking the S/N on the website they still don’t recommend upgrading it.
It’s the slightly larger case, but that doesn’t bother me too much.

The “MAJOR UPGRADE” rumor has been around since 98 or 99 and some people are still waiting for it to happen.

The competition IS getting pretty close.
I’m sure as soon as someone matches the V1 performance there will be something entirely new out from them.

For the prices that used ones go for on EBAY, there is really no good reason to pay Valentine One for the upgrade service.
It’s usually better to sell outright and get a new one like I have done TWICE since I bought my first unit back in 1992.
