and yet another...thermoblock review

ok so you all know the deal with this product already so i just wanted to put in my about it after installing the spacers last night. Install was straightforward...only difficulties were 1) throttle body would not budge - friend told me to give it a little tap with a rubber mallet which, to my surprise, worked great. 2) getting all the throttle body gasket residue off. Took me about 3 n a half hours just because this was my first time doing something this involved (headers and intake were not nearly this involved imo) so i was learning as i went.

Review: OMG I LOVE THESE THINGS. Best investment of $106 EVER!!!! My butt dyno tells me that there is definitely an increase in tq. Car pulls much harder and after a drive from san gabriel to irvine (around 40 minutes with little to no traffic) i slapped my hand on my intake manifold and it was barely warm. I swear the only heat coming from my engine bay now is from my headers...i am so regretting not getting them jet hot coated before i installed them *cry*. So anyone having doubts about buying this product...go...buy...now

DAMN YOU SHINY for now causing me to run out and blow another bill on my car. I truly hate you and all who give good reviews on this product.

Nice review though.

What does jet hot coating your headers do?

Btw, did you use any directions or instructions or anything of the sort?

jet hot basically coats your headers so that they don't heat up as much. From what i've heard, after a long drive you can touch the headers and they'll be just slightly warm.

Oh and I used niteqwill's diy for the install. Great diy, recommend it to anyone installing this

Did you clean out your throttle body and such too shiny?

I remember someone saying that would help with your throttle response and performance for sure.

I just ordered mine today... just a quick question... is everyone using the bypass valve? it says on their site that it may cause rough idleing, error codes, etc. just wondering if anyone that is bypassing has noticed anything??

I did however, find John's review of it. And he DID dyno before and after.

Jet-Hot coated headers still reach over 200 degrees . . . vs 500 for uncoated. I guess some people can still handle that much heat . . . I can touch it really really quick, but can't hold my hands on it.

Also, hold off on buying ThermoBlocs right now. We are expecting some news regarding a group buy sometime this month.

The ThermoBlok group buy is underway for the J-series V6. Check the Group Buy forum under the "Black Market" heading.

Question for those with an AEM.

Won't this shift the throttle body up and to the right, making the AEM not fit correctly? This is my only concern.

Oh gawrsh...Good point. I hope it's not affected, but it would make sense to say it shouldn't fit.

i installed mine yesterday and the AEM still fit fine.....

just a tip.. make sure you have either a long magnetic tool grabber or one of those claw type grabbers... i dropped one of the studs under the intake manifold on top of the block... it would have been impossible to get without those...

I did have to loosen up the bolt that holds the bottom bracket some and reposition the intake over a bit - but it wasnt a problem at all, and the power is definately there. Ive had mine on for a few months now, everything is working great (no noticable loss of fluids and i did bypass the coolent line from the throttle body).

i'm thinking about getting this through the group buy.. but i was wondering what the benefits are from bypassing the coolant line?

i live in a cold climate area and it says it is not recommended.

the benefit is that it keeps your throttle body much cooler because the hot engine "coolent" isnt flowing through it - therefore your intake air stays cooler = more power. They only recommend to reconnect the lines if you plan on driving in very cold weather at high speeds - so dont worry about it till it gets real cold. you can reconnect the lines in a minute or two so its not a big deal at all.

this might not be the right thres for this but i figured i would throw it out since a lot of the people reading this already have them installed... i put min on last weekend... it makes a high pitched squeel whenever the intake kicks in at high throttle..Possible intake leak???? i havent done any trouble shooting yet just figured i would ask first...

Sorry for the hijack.

you may have installed them incorrectly - because mine dont have any extra sound to them - though I may not be able to tell because I have the V2 intake
