Yet another next-gen NSX rumor
Yet another next-gen NSX rumor
The guys at Acura must be laughin' their asses off at all the speculation on the next gen NSX. I'm sure they are the ones who've started all these rumors!
The newest one I've heard (from Temple of VTEC by way of Best Car magazine in Japan) is that it will be all-aluminum again and powered by a 350hp V6 with IMA. Yes, that's right folks, IMA as in Integrated Motor Assist as in Honda Insight as in a freakin' electric motor. Here are the guesstimates of the specs:
Length - 4300mm
Width -1800mm
Height -1180mm
Wheelbase 2500mm
Engine 3.4L V6 i-VTEC350hp/7500rpm 33Kg/M /5500rpm (~239 lb-ft)
6 speed MT
price 8,000,000 yen
This rumor seems to be the most far-fetched if you ask me. I don't see why they'd use IMA here before they'd try it in the Civic or Accord (although both are in the works).
SO let's recap:
Rumor #1: 400hp V8, steel body, much lower price tag (around $60K)
Rumor #2: 400hp V8, aluminum body, supercar status and price tag (over $130K)
Rumor #3: 350hp V6 with IMA, aluminum body, no guess on price.
Please, please, please let it be #1

Can't wait until Acura finally reveals what they will truly be!

It'll probably be only cosmetic changes. Acura has let people down in the past as far as redesigns go.
What about the missile launchers? Are they at least an option?

I have no idea which will be true although I would guess that the 130,000 dollar car makes more sense, I would not rule out this new electric motor (hybrid) rumor. Why:
The future is for sure hybrid engines for all cars. There is no doubt about that. The main problem that auto manufacturers have right now is that it is customer belief that hybrid solutions result in small, slow, cheesy cars. By applying the concept(hybrid) on the flagship supercar of one's brand you (Honda/Acura) are making a statement about the above consumer perception.
If a hybrid NSX is successful, then consumer behavior will start changing about the future hybrid Accord/TL/CL. That is the only way to ensure that when the future Accord/CL/TL, etc hybrids come out, they are accepted and not rejected.
I would not expect a hybrid NSX that soon though. Maybe 5 years from now. That is my only problem with the rumor. Timing. As for a hybrid NSX, I do not doubt it at all. It is only a matter of time guys. Sorry. Although, there is nothing wrong with that. As long as it is still super fast, light, agile, fun to drive, etc. I dont care what makes it move. Even better if it is a technology which preserves the environment and makes this country be less dependant to freaking OPEC!!!

I think that the products speak for themselves. If the Insight or Prius really did 0-60 in 9-10 sec, seated four comfortably and still got 60mpg then consumer reaction would not be that they are small slow cheesy cars. But they don't and they are and car mags point out their deficiencies. If there are no deficiencies to point out, then consumer "perception" wouldn't be as much of a problem.

1 yen is 0.00808604 dollar today or 1 dollar is 123.57 yen at close today. So do your math again. I know finance better than cars.
So at close today 8 million yen is: 64,688.29 US dollars. Here:
