Yet another 7 year service thread

Alright, I know there have been too many of these threads to count, but I was wondering about something:

Did you guys just do the timing belt, water pump, drive belts, etc. etc? I was told that I also should replace the seals too, but I'm wondering if when they say "replace all the seals" they're referring to ALL the seals all over the engine bay, outside of the parts you're replacing/doing maintenance on.

I'm about to buy all the parts I need for the 7 year maintenance service, and all the threads I've found in the CL/TL forums just show people buying water pumps, timing belt, etc. No extra seals or anything. Help a car noob out? please?

I just did this on my CLS-6 and purchased Honda:
TB belt
Water pump
Tensioner
Timing belt adjuster pulley
Timing belt idler pulley
New Drive belt
New PS belt

I reused the adjuster pully bolt and auto adjuster coller from the old adjuster pulley. BTW, the adjuster pulley bolt is torqued to 19 foot pounds. I inspected the cam seals and the crank seal while everything was opened up and there was no noticable leaking so I did not take it to that level. If you unbolt the PS pump and move it up and out of the way as best as you can, it will make the TB work a little easier; however, it is not necessary. I marked my old TB with a silver sharpie at the cams and at the crank to transfer the marks to the new belt just to have an idea as to if I had the new belt on correctly, which helped me alot, but again, it is not necessary to do this. If you do this yourself, be prepared for alot of coolant release when the WP is removed. Cover up the oil dip stick whole and crank sensor area to keep it clean.

Me too, I got an 03 at 81k, and I'm a little on the fence about getting the service tbqh. For what it's worth, I subscribed to Acura's service reminders, and they aren't telling me to get the 7 year/105k service done.... maybe they DO want you to wait until 105k?

and about the valves, my service manual says to do it only if there's excessive noise. Again, on the fence. Want to be safe, but don't want to pay for something I don't need.

Belts wear over time, more so than the actual mileage on the belts...So you should do the service now...I believe Acura says 7 years or 105k, whichever comes first.

I was talking to my Acura dealer and they stated that HOA gave them new specs of 10 years on the belts or 105K. They also told me that they routinely see acuras come in with 120K+ on the original belts......and not to be too worried about being right at 105K. regardless I will do my setup next year

Can anyone confirm this? Or are these new specs for newer belts?

I did everything listed above plus the cam seals and the spark plug boots/gaskets along with the valve adjustment. I also did upper and lower radiator hoses while I was at it but I didnt touch the thermostat. Basically I wanted to replace anything that could fail before the next 105k. Peace of mind.

Just an FYI...There was a Timing belt Auto-Tensioner safety recall around Nov 2006. It didn't affect all CLs as there is a VIN list for it. It's actually an update to the Water Pump recall that came in Nov of 2003. It's Service Bulletin 03-022 which replaced the 02-022 for the water pump. If your car is/was affected, the Timing Belt Auto-Tensioner Water Pump and Timing belt should have been changed. Meaning...You mave have more miles left on your timing belt than you think. I'm close to 140000miles. I bought it with 39000 miles. I checked with the dealership and they confirmed that my timing belt was changed around 36000 miles due to the service bulletin. Mine went to the shop today to have the TB service done.

well if your timing belt has been changed doesn't mean that the other belts or th water pump will be able to last till you change the belt. 105k/7 years is quite a long time for components that used to be changed out at 60k intervals.

Manual or auto??

I would get everything done just to make the car as close to new as possible, but you can probably hold off a year or two if you want.

I don't really understand what you meant.

but my point is that being old lady driven, that it only has 46k miles on it and that some members are saying that it was changed to 10 years (or at least more than 7) he's probably good to go for a while IMO

So just for clarification, I just got my Option underdrive pulley installed a few months ago, so does that mean I don't have to change out any of the drive belts, just the timing belt? I was under the impression that there was a 3rd belt, but I could only find the two I replaced with the pulley...

Alright, so I found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Acura...Q5fAccessories

Is that all about right? Anything I'd need outside of that? (adjuster pulley?) I already have spark plugs.

Id do it now. Rubber deteriorates over time. And its not just the belt you have to worry about. Its the tensioner and the water pump. Those go without warning and cost alot more then the t-belt service to repair since they will most likely destroy the engine.

Go to an independent shop. ~$800 including parts is about right. If you get the parts for them you might even be able to find a place to do it for $4-500.

You had to replace the two drive belts since the option pulley is smaller, so you should be fine.

The kit that Rapture found doesn't include hydraulic tensioner.
The one i found does. first automatic adjuster is hydraulic tensioner. second one is tensioner pulley.

however I dont know why they do not do the seals, cams and the rest ... can sb tell me why.
only my water pump, tensioners, pulley and coolant were changed. i told them not to change the spark plugs becos they wanted $284 for the plugs i figure out i cud do it 4 cheaper else where..

what else do i also need to do to make this a complete service aprt frm changing spark plugs ??

Is a valve adjustment necessary at 105k. ( we all know out cars mk a lot of ticking noise as it is)
