Yes!!! 350z....

I've been waiting to see someone in one of these that might be willing to race. Anyways.... things happen when you least expect it. I go to the gym today and see a silver track edition (can tell by the brembo's) 350Z parked (in the middle of two spots, I must say!!). I work out... get ready to go home and the owner was getting in. I jolted to my car and followed him out of the parking lot. I didn't want to seem like a jerk, so I just stayed back until the first traffic light. He guns it just before the light... and it turns red. I knew what was gonna happen, so I pulled to his right. The guy nodded and smiled (kind of sarcastically... but I would have too... if I drove a Z and a CL that looks as high as a 4x4 pulled up next to me!)

Well, light turns green. He does a semi-launch, I launch at 1.3K rpms. He gets me by 1/2 car in first. I take it to 7200rpm, shift to 2nd and I am dead even. I pull 1/2 car in 2nd and 1 car in 3rd and pulling slowly but surely. Next traffic light comes on and we slow down. I chatted for a minute. He asked me what mods I have and I just said headers. He wanted to know what was available for his and I said there will be tons of aftermarket goodies for that ride (which there will!).

I think if I had my Nitto's on, i would have taken him by much more... but that car is defiantely quick and has lots of potential!

It's about 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles. Just north of the 'Valley'.

alright allmotor_2000 i give you a credit for a kill

i also had run a week ago and a test drive with the 350,

posted it under the car talk 'nismo z350 kick ass

car has a beautiful exterior , inside is weak
a stock auto 350 z is no powerful than a auto stock cl , i have raced one from 30-90 and it was even steven.

i was thinking of purchasing either the infintiy or the 350 or the new bmw z4.
( i would like to have a back seat)
on the test drive the 350 handles a lot like a porchse boxter.
automatic was fun to drive on all three.
with nissan committing to performance parts it might be a fun car to go with.

and i then get flamed by moforose.3.0

and he's asking me what am i smoking

thorodred_cls backed me up.

Yeah

Once people start working on the new Z's, there's nothing stopping them. I think we should be able to keep up with the usual modded Z - intake, headers, exhaust. Once they start working on the motor and go forced-induction... its going to be difficult EVEN with a supercharger!

Not really, look at YOUR 1/4 times. Throw on the comptech supercharger raise the boost. Add smaller pulleys to the setup, throw in the comptech icebox, next, some S03s or nittos, throw in a zex kit for a 50 shot or smaller, and I picture mid to low 12's easy. All for about an extra 4500 or so, depending on where you go and you have a luxary boat that can mop a lot of people on the road.

Once people learn how to drive the new Z's they will be a lot quicker. They have only been out for about 3 months now. Many havent even fully broken their cars in.

Oh gawd

Has to be a nissan fanatic. What you are trying to say is that the Z just 'stumbled' along and subsequently lost. Dude... I have been racing for nearly 10 years - I don't bullshit, my friend!

What a poor excuse. Who races there car before its broken in.

The Z lost period. Whether its broken in or not the guy still raced and lost. Plain and simple.

Come on guys, it's a known issue with the headlight fluid gears - the 350Z is half-a-second slower than it really is. Maximized told me so!!

Lots of idiots race before the car is broken in. Just ask someone on this board who took their CL-S to the track with ~500 miles on it.

Sidemarker - Before you jump the gun we are talking AUTO vs AUTO. Nothing more nothing less! Fact, Z auto is slow for what it is ..... a lowend sports car!

And don't comeback and say the cls is slow, b/c for what the cls FUNCTION IS luxary/sport/coupe, we do fine for speed especially at weighing 3500 pounds. CLS is not a sports car. Z is. GS400_Pusher can out run a 350z Auto... maybe stick too) :P

The Z is faster than the CL-S end of story.

Auto vs Auto or Manual vs Manual. I will make a gentlemens wager that a stock 350Z 6 speed will beat the very best CL-S modded times within 1 year.

Now I dont have any times to back this claim up, but look at the hard data. More HP and TQ, RWD, less weight, and a better CD.

Gentleman's wager

You say: A STOCK 350Z (6 speed) will beat the very best modded CL-S. Dude.... what just happened two days ago?? A 6-speed 350Z against my car... :duh:

Since you have stepped forward, I'll take your wager... in fact you don't have to wait a whole year!!

I'll back you up Allmotor2000.... i raced one from a roll a few weeks ago and pulled on him by a little over a car, I havent been racing that long, but i know he was doing everything he could to try and keep up. Im not dogging the new Z, i like them, not as much as my CL, however, i do wish they would come out with a turbo for ours, like they will for the Z, and then I'll need my charger to keep up with them, but for now im happy

You have been racing for 10 years now and dont know that ANYTHING can happen on the street. At the track a stock Z will run better 13.96...mark my word. You killed 1 Z, thats cool but it doesnt mean that your faster.

Track is fine

Dude... you still don't comprehend this:

(1) A STOCK 350Z (6spd) might run faster than 13.96.. so what?
(2) I have a Comptech Header and a drop-in K&N Filter when I ran my 13.96. It isn't even lowered or have an exhaust!
(3) My car will be 1/2-second faster within the month, naturally aspirated of course

I mean... you must be smoking some kind of weed, because you say the 'best modded CL-S' can't beat a STOCK Z??!!?? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and maintain natural aspiration (no NOS, Turbo or S/C's). Still... how about Type-R's 3.5 liter... once he works the bugs out and runs the 1/4-mile?

You can't make such GENERAL statements. You are CORRECT if you say a STOCK 350Z (6-speed) will beat a STOCK CL-S (6-speed). I am the first to pat you on the back for that one! I mean... that's like saying a STOCK 911 Turbo will beat the 'best modded Civic' out there. My Civic is naturally aspirated and will beat a 911 Turbo!

I guarantee you a CL-S will run 13.5 or better in the 1/4-mile without NOS, Turbo or S/C by the end of 2003 - hopefully mine
At the same time a 350Z (without NOS, Turbo or S/C) will run a 12-second 1/4-mile (not STOCK of course!).

Those Z's are gonna be totally badass once the aftermarket parts picks up.

Fuck wit'em now all you want, but ~spring time, I wouldn't bother messing with'em. They are going to have TONS of mods available.

I love the car, cept for those damn door handles!

I wasnt counting F/I cars. I fully comprehend what you are saying. Again, your MODDED 6 speed, which has the fastest 1/4 time of N/A CL-S's isnt faster than 350Zs. If you think that an intake, exhaust, and springs are going to get you down to 13.46, you are a little generous in your thinking.

Once again...

I never said exhaust and springs will give me 1/2-second. That's why I never bothered to purchase exhaust or springs yet... it won't make that much of a difference. Springs will, however, slightly improve my 60-foot, but that's about it. There are several mods to get a 1/2-second in the 1/4-mile!!

Your talking out of your ass when you have no fucking clue either. So shut the fuck up till people prove the Z is faster. Got it?

I deduced from that statement that you were going to do those mods listed above and be .5 faster. BTW....What do you plan on doing if thats not what you meant?????

350Z vs. CL-S

The 350Z motor (generally all of the VQ-series motors) have more potential than the 3.2 CL-S motors. They are DOHC vs. SOHC. The 3.2 NSX motor would be a more suitable comparison. A well-modded 350Z will ALWAYS be faster than an EQUALLY-modded CL-S.

The general public owning 350Z's will have intake, header, exhaust, some kind of ECU upgrade and that's about it (NA-style, of course). My goal/plan is to be able to out-run that population of Z's at the track (in the 1/4-mile) while being NA.

Your problem is that you think a STOCK 350Z is ridiculously fast... and its NOT! For that matter... I think my CL-S is very slow - in fact its the slowest car I have ever owned. Yet... its faster than a STOCK 350Z (6spd) no matter WHAT YOU SAY!!!!

Having driven 500+ hp cars, I dont think the Z is ridiculously fast. Just give the Z time and you will see some good times. The times people are referring to are mag times (13.9-14.3). We all know that 99% of the time they arent accurate. I would be suprised to see near mid 13s in a stock Z, with a good driver and ideal conditions.
