XM Radio

I would like to integrate an XM Radio receiver into the stock CLS stereo - but I don't want to do it through an FM modulator; any advice? I know you can do this in the G35 by purchasing the receiver and then plugging it in - I'm guessing it's not quite so easy in the CLS.

it's pretty easy on the cls...decide on what xm tuner you want and then get a blitzsafe adapter for that tuner and your car. It'll plug into the empty aux input on the head unit and you access it by pressing the "CD" button to switch between the aux. and the stock cd changer.

the guys i had doing it did a good job, but it took them 3 hours, most of it taking the car apart though. I was there the whole time to make sure they dont' mess up too much. The antenna is mounted on the rear deck right behind the brake light (i got one of the newer/smaller terks, about 3/4" high and 1 1/2" x 2" more or less square. The unit is mounted in front of the passenger footwell, and the controller wire is run under the ashtray and mounted below the preset buttons.

And the new Treks work A LOT better! I had to replace mine last week and got that new one. Signal strength is vastly improved.

I have a Delphi Skyfi installed with a Panavise Mount. I have the audio running through a tape adapter, which looks suprisingly clean. The wire is black, and runs horizontally out of the tape deck and under the volume. Anybody know how to load or display pics? I heard the easiest way is through posting at CarDomain or something-

Anyone know if you can integrate an XM antenna inside the little antenna that comes in the 03's with onStar? That would be cool.

The new Terk is actually magnet mounted, no tape. You can get the old one off either by pulling real hard (which I did, left no marks) or heating up the surrounding surface with a blow drier for a while softening up the tape. 90* weather also makes for easy removal, like it almost slides off!

A guy I was talking to said he had his antenna on the back deck inside the car (Civic), with tints. He said his reception was fine so maybe it's worth a try.

i think the "metal to metal" contact is required for the FM repeaters when you are in areas that have them (the sat. signal gets cut, so it switches to the repeaters). If you are in those areas, you may get more drop-outs when you lose site of the satellites.

I may try to put it inside and see how it works.

moses, the xm antenna works fine when placed inside the car on the rear speaker shelf. That's how i had mine and had no problems with reception. Beats having a nipple on your car.

yeah... but i'm in the city alot and might need that sheet metal contact to get the repeaters' signal...
anyone have a pic of how the new terks look on the roof?

oh yeah... i dont think theres a way to intergrate the onstar antenna with the xm one. yukons, escalades, etc. have both antennas on the front from the factory

Yuppie,

How did you install the receiver like that. I was thinking about doing the exact same setup. Did you have to buy an extension cable to route all the way down to the receiver? How about the plastics for the sunglass holder?
