Xephyr or AEM CAI -- which?
The AEM costs an arm and a leg more (and looks better imho) but I can't justify it's higher price based on looks alone.
Has everyone gone with the Xephyr instead? Astroboy got the AEM installed yesterday and absolutely loves it Says it sounds like a beast now
Also, does anyone have that link to the person who had done sound clips of his car + Xephyr CAI? Sounded great
Anyone have a CAI + headers? So far, I've only read about ppl with JUST a CAI. I'm wondering if an FPR would be needed after you install both headers + CAI.

I’m sure it’s going to be a split decision between the owners of each respective unit.
I would venture a guess that they both provide the same effect on engine HP.
I went with the Xephyr because of the safety of the bypass valve and I was able to pay Chris in CASH on Saturday.
The FREE install didn’t hurt either.

I do have the Injen and it would let you clearly know the activation of both 2nd Induction Stage and the VTEC engagemnent. The first sound at 3800 comes with a kind change of mood for the CAI, however at WOT, be prepared for freaking experience
The first time I heard the VTEC with the CAI, I thought my pistons are sweetly jammmmed in nice hi-pitch melody. My brother just started yelling at me, saying "you are destroying your engine, this is not normal "
The only inconvenience is that when the engine is cold there would a wooshing sound. This sound would go away when the engine is warmed to the normal operating point.
The R&D of Injen needs to be improved a bit. The connecter for the 10 mm hose needs to be a bit lower and pointing lower so as to clear the hood.

If you're mechanically inclined at all then putting your own bypass valve in is not a problem....I would go with the AEM....you usually get it within 4 days after ordering...Also, when ordering the AEM you can track it anytime during the delivery process...If you want to gamble to get a Xeph without knowing when you're actually gonna get it then that is your option...get what you pay for

What do you mean? Xephyr Performance isn't a reliable company? I thought alot of board owners had purchased the unit?

Xephyr is reliable, when he's not busy doing other things, then you can forget about hearing a peep from him...but most people seem to eventually get their stuff from him...

Search for Jens review of the Xephyr.... He mentions some benefits that the AEM does not have, like the bypass valve already installed and the use of the stock tb lead and hoses for ease of installation. Check out his post....

sure, whatever....
The Xephyr is by far a better deal. As long as you don't need your intake within 3 days, it will arrive. It's easy to install (very detailed instructions), comes with the bypass valve installed and there's no humming noise. If you're somewhat patient, Xephyr is the way to go....

well i love my Xephyr. it works. it is proven both on the track and dyno. i can't say anything bad about any other brands ... other than pricing ... $185 including the bypass valve installed in the downpipe. can't argue with that.i think other brands were $200, not including the bypass which is another $40, plus installing the bypass ... go figure the math ...

My opinion and I have not purchased either, is that Xephyr is the way to go. I met Chris and he seems to be a straight up guy that is looking for a way to improve his service and his company. He has no problem with diving on the ground and spilling a few drops of blood over his product. I know little about AEM.....
One comment that I overheard Jens make was that he had seen some other CAI's deteriorate in that flxe portion of the curve where the foam gasket is. Pieces get sucked into the intake and then you're dead. The AEM unit does not flex with the block as does Xephyr therefore more prone to deteriorate (in my opinion). Jens also remarked about the simplicity of the install and leaving the stock flex tubing at the inlet to the injectors.
I was impressed by what I saw and I am leaning heavily toward the Xephyr if at all (mine is leased). Just my $.02.

I have a policy with vendors, and it's not unreasonable:
1. If you don't have something in stock, just say so.
2. Don't charge the card until the "stuff" ships.
3. I always ask for a "worst-case" delivery date. I make it clear that I do not want to be coddled. I just want to calendar the date; so give me the worst case date, AND KEEP TO IT
4. Friendly and available means of communications. It is a great idea to help all new endeavors. However, when they fail to keep an open line of communication, it is a sign of immaturity or ignorance. A company stays in business by keeping its customer's happy. The ones that don't, don't stay in business long.
When I don't see vendors doing 1, 2, and 3, I get very concerned and start considering other alternatives. When I see vendors doing #4, I wonder if it is worth the trouble.
When I think about "Snook", I get a warm fuzzy feeling from all of the raves he gets and points 1,2,3 and 4 ARE NOT a concern.
Makes me want to buy ALL my stuff from him!

Do you have said CL-S CAI's in stock? What's the expected delivery date? Hee hee
We can put this "bad customer service" rap to rest right now. I'm ready to buy it from you if you have it in stock, ppl seem to be quite pleased with the PRODUCT.

Guys- give Chris a break. He has a good product, not only for our cars but for others as well. Anyone who has started a business will tell you that there is usually a period where, after you realize your product will sell, and sell well, you run into supply problems. I know Chris is aware of this and is doing everything he can to solve the problem. The beauty of the web is the ability to market and promote a product with ease. The down side is that we have all become used to instant gratification and have lost a little patience. Sure theres plenty of competition, but I think that Chris' products will rise above them in quality and price, and he will resolve his distribution/delivery problems. Just my .02
