WTF's up with the rattling

Alight, I've had just enough with my CLS and the rattling. Does anyone know how to fix or where the rattling is coming from in the trunk/rear shelf. I have the new 12" Alpine Type X subwoofer with a 1000/1 Fosgate amp powering it. The thing pounds, but all I can hear is rattling coming from the trunk or the rear shelf? I am sure others have had problems with it as well, just wondering if there is a quick fix? This would be a greatly appreciated. It makes me not even want to turn the sub up. Thanks.

It's the rear shelf. You need to remove the shelf and apply sound deadening to the bottom of it. What I did was place foam weather stripping around the edge and on the bottom of the styrofoam blocks. Not one rattle anymore and I have a SoloBaric 12L7 with 600 watts.

For me it was just the bottom of the rear brake light. I went to Walmart and bought some felt that has adhesive on one side (was originally for the bottom of funiture) and put a 1/2" piece near the bottom of the rear brake light housing (sticky side to the housing) and it has stopped all rattling in the rear.....next rattleing project is my XM antenna hidden in the headliner.

Thanks, phipark. Where did you get the foam weather stripping, and what did you apply with to the bottom of the styrofoam blocks. How do you like the Solobaric 12L7? Thats what I used to have with 500/1 fosgate amp to it, until someone stole it. The thing must romp in your car.

You can get it at any hardware store, Home depot or Lowe's. They have different sizes. I think I got the 3/4" width and 1/2" think, that might be too thick though, can't remember. I also put some on around the edge of the brake light. Since I have tinted windows and ebony interior, you don't notice the foam. You apply the foam to the bottom of those blocks too. I think those blocks cause the majority of the rattle. They rattle against the metal rear deck. You'll see once you take it off.

It's kind of a PITA. You have to remove the rear seats and console. Not hard, but just time consuming.

me to. My center brake light housing tapped on the rear metal brace. It drove me nuts. I got some free trim foam from my friendly Atlanta Acura dealer, and I stuffed it between the light housing and the metal brace. Also, had rattles from both rear side panels and front driver door. I went crazy with the foam. No more noise.

Thanks everyone for your replies, looks like I have a new project for the weekend, depending on the weather. I can't wait to get rid of that awful noise. Thanks again.
