WRX (bpu) vs. stock '01 CL-S

Since my brother had got his car I had been telling my him a cl-s would beat him from a roll, but hes never had a chance to race one and find out till this past friday. him and his friend went 3 times, 1 from a stop for shits and giggles, 1 from a 30 roll, and one from a 45-50 roll. the cl-s is stock with only the driver in the car, the wrx has samco i/c piping/hoses, uppipe/downpipe/exhaust and his 200lb. friend riding along. from a stop to 110 the wrx had him by 8 or so car lengths and was still pulling. from 30 the cls got the jump but my brother quickly started to pull and was ahead by 4-5 car lengths by 110 and still pulling. from 45 the results were the same, 4-5 car lengths on the cl-s and still pulling. his friend had the vsa off and was in ss mode shifting between 6900-7k. stock its true the wrx starts dying after 70-80, but with just a turbo back exhaust to free up the exhaust flow, that shits FAST.

p.s. this race was a baseline test for the cl-s to see what difference i/h/e is going to make on his car.

Interesting to see how the CL does with some I/H/P. Is the WRX gonna keep modding?

never taken it to the track but probably mid 13's. future mods are bigger injectors, cobb or utec ecu, vf34 or 18g turbo, and a fmic.

Sti's run an average of 13.4 to 12.9 with a good driver, i have seen them run as slow as 13.8 with a bad driver

i had a WRX with catless uppipe catless downpipe and 3 inch exhaust. also had a boost controller set to 15.5 psi in 4th gear. car ran 12.8 at 106 mph. pulled a 1.70 60' time. a supercharged cls would stand no chance. even from a roll, thats if the wrx driver knew how do drive his shit and knew how to keep boost up.

I doubt that. I'm sure there are a few S/C owners on this site that would show you their tails from a roll.

I embarrassed an STi at the track once. They trap pretty low. A S/C CLS should have an advantage on a stock STi from a roll. It wouldn't take much (modwise) for the Impeza to even things up.

its a 02 wrx. or 03 i forget. we just orderd a vf34 w/mild p&p'd , cobb ecu, injectors and fuel pump for it. hopefully 12's is in reach. and those people who say mod'd wrx's are slow from a roll are nuts, i look at these things so differently now. thursday night , after we left the gym a 99 cobra svt with 3 people pulled up next to us a started revving on us. so we came up to a red light and i told my brother prepared to be embarassed, light turns green and they go. immediately my brother had the kid by a full car and just kept pulling. the redneck kid looked pissed so he tried to go from a roll ~35-40, he had the jump for like a split second then the wrx started to pull past him. my brother shut it down at like 80, but the kid in the cobra was starting to gain some and you can imagine what would have happend after that. im very impressed with these subaru civics

ps. im done with messing with my car, this thing has taken me to the darkside of turbo-land and has become our project car. he makes the payment and i buy the parts. theres no point for me to try to get my car to hit 14's, or wishing for 13's when all you need for a wrx to hit 12's or 11's is a couple thousand dollars.

I smoked a modded WRX at the track Friday night. He had added full exhaust, STi intercooler. Everything except Turbo.

If they don't launch we can take them with I/H/E. He had a 2.3 60' vs. my 2.1. He trapped 2 MPH faster in the 1/8th mile but we were at the same (97.7 MPH) in the 1/4. It is a pretty even match up.

He got it down to 1.9 and ran mid 13s but... "A Kill is A Kill!"

We pull back up and he says "that thing is pretty fast for a luxury car"

if he had everything except for a larger turbo he should of killed you, he should be running mid 12's and pulling 1.6 60' times. everything except for turbo is,

catless up-pipe
catless downpipe
catless mid-pipe
full exhaust
larger intercooler
larger injectors
User-Tuneable computer
boost controller
intercooler hoses
water spray on intercooler
tranny mounts
stage 1 clutch
short shifter

that will produce a mean wrx that will eat an STi from anywhere, modded wrx's with close power will eat a sti from a roll because of long gearing. Sti's have short gearing and therefore are not efficent for drag racing, Sti's were made for the Road Racing.

i do love my car way more than my WRX but for racing, the WRX took the cake

Okay i'm sure it wasn't an all out race car because it was street-able.

He didn't have injectors, or a chip, or water spray.

Everything else I'm pretty sure he had. I saw his STi intercooler.

I know they have short gearing. Isn't the Sti in 5th or 6th by the end of the 1/4??

yes the Sti is in 5th by the end of the quarter. they are still fast from the roll though. go try to race one from a 40 roll. have fun trying. unless your modded to hell

You had better be trapping better than that to make this claim. 106 MPH is in line with just the base SC kit for the 6-Speed CL-S.

If you know anyone that is running a stock turbo with upgraded injectors and/or fuel pump slap them. There is no need to upgrade the stock 440cc's until you get an upgraded turbo, it's just a waste of money. To Brady6226, a 12.8 at 106 is pretty impressive for a car with such minimal mods and no engine management, that time with those mods would put you as one of the fastest stock turbo times I've seen. Were you spraying? Or did you P&p the turbo? Most stage4 wrx's only trap 106-109.
