Would YOU buy a used CLS?

Hello all,

I normally hate asking people what they would or wouldnt do, but I'm in the market for a new/used car. I really like the CL-S but the transmission problems are really something I cannot sit too comfortably with. My choices right now are a used Accord V6, CLS, or maybe a Subaru Wrx Wagon in auto. Price is not the main issue here, and I'm over the modding scene. I just want a nice car to drive everyday that is comfortable. And the fact that the resale on CLS's is pretty low only makes me want one even more.

Would you buy or recommend a loved one buy a used CL? I have had acuras and hondas all my life, and this is the first time I have had any doubt as far as purchasing one goes. If you were in the market for a car, would you consider a CL?

i would....sure the CL has some transmission failure, BUT...please consider, ALL cars, no matter what brand have some sort of percentage of tranny failure...the CL has about 2-3% failure rate, while ford cars have a 5% failure rate....I mean, its not really a big deal, and u cannot say that all CLs will have a failed tranny, otherwise if it was inevitable, Acura's reputation would be no longer....u kno what i mean? Acura builds great relaiable and fast cars, no doubt....so, dont let a 2-3% chance screw with your decision, drive all the cars, and see what fits u best! Good luck

BTW, everyone knows that accords are excellent cars, verydependdale...i have owned 2....but even they have their small percentages of tranny failures...my buddy who owns a 2000 lx accord had a tranny break on him....so it all depends on the luck of the draw

It's no secret that the CL has not exactly been a huge marketing success for Acura. The transmission issue and the fact that it's been discontinued isn't going to help values any. The good news for you is these factors have greatly reduced new and used prices making it a great time to buy. As long as you don't keep it beyond the 100K transmission warranty and don't plan on trading it for a couple of years you should be fine.

Does not matter... I have been drag racering my CLS at the drag strip more than 20 times.. no problem. I change the trany fluid each 15k miles and it's very drak. It drives smoother after the change.

Go for it!

I wouldn't buy a used auto, but that's only because i want a 6 speed now.

I say go for it, just have the tranny checked out before buying it. And if it's going bad, you end up with a brand new transmission with a brand new 100k mile warranty.

lots of dealerships are now selling "certified pre-owned" cars with full warranties like new. Sometimes the warranty is even better than new. I'd definitely take a certified CL. They may cost a little more than another comparable CL, but I think it's worth it for the peace of mind.

My 03 6 speed is a certified Acura. that means a total of 5 years warranty, and a 7 year 100k powertrain warranty. couldn't beat that with a new 03. new ones are 4yr warr /70k powertrain.

We all agree that for the $$ new, nothing comes close, so a used CL-S with low miles for 20K or less is incredible. What can you buy new that comes close ?? Just my .02 and don't worry about the tranny on the auto either.

Thanks everyone for your honest and respected opinions. I think I'm going to go ahead and check out the local CL's for sale. I actually have my eye on this and I'm going to contact the owner tomorrow.

If i was in the market for a car, and my budget was 20-25k. Then yes i would buy a used CLS.

Tell me another car for 20k that has power and has shit like navi.
