Would it be unsafe to

Would it be unsafe to fill in the holes in rims then re-drill them to fit our bolt pattern? My friend did it so it could fit his cougar and he never had any problems or at least none that i knew of.

NO!!! the rims are made in a casting process. metal was heated until it turns to the liquid form and then pour into their molds. when the metal cools down, it'll from bonds between the molecules. when the holes are drilled out, the bonds on the edges of the holes become stronger. so if you just fill in those holes, they will never bond to the edges of the holes. then, when you drill out new holes, since the bond between old holes and the filling is not strong, they can just break whenever they want. so, this is a wheel that is moving in high speed and when the bonds break, you can imagine what will happen to the wheel. it'll fly right off!!!

so don't do it and i don't know why your friend is so smart to do something like that to a moving part.

very dangerous, You might as well get them custom done at a shop. With all the danger and problems you'd be better off just getting a rim that fits.

our cars have an extremely common bolt pattern, is it really that hard to find a wheel?!?

either way, yes you can change the bolt pattern on a wheel... just not in the manner you describe.

search the web for info as ive never had this done...
