Thanks Gold!
That's the point I've been trying to make.
If you take two identical street cars, one auto one stick, put them on a road track (or drag strip), the stick will always finish ahead given both drivers are competent.
Regarding torque steer and other FWD issues...
How long did Honda Accords dominated the touring class worldwide competing against BMWs and other RWD cars?
Remember, handling can always be adjusted, but there's only so much an auto. tranny will let you do.

wow... very interesting topic.
Coming into it, I expected it to be about a 50/50 split between RWD and stick. Although I haven't totaled it up, it's gotta be at least 70% in favor of RWD.
I'd choose a stick. Springs/sways and tires can do WONDERS for the inherent disadvantages of FWD, but an auto is an auto is an auto. not a damn thing you can do about that.</font>

I want STICK mainly for control and "fun factor" of the car, not necessarily to make it faster.

It comes down to two main things that the stick lets you do much better than the auto:
1) downshift before entering a turn at high speed - allows you to break deeper.
2) be on the right gear when coming out of a turn - will give you a lot more top-end speed.
There's other things I could mention, but to me, these two are key in this argument.

NOT Going to Happen. I just talked with a Dealer, he said that would KILL the whole Northern Market, who rely on FWD in the "snowier" climates

RWD. I don't drive stick. Plus with the sportshift thing, there's never again a need for a real stick - just have the settings on that thing tweaked if you want even crisper shifts.

Now imagine that the FWD would come with torque sensitive steering. Does that help influence your decision? TL-S has no torque steer.
If CL and TL go rwd, then that kills the cost savings of sharing the platform with the Accord. Which easily outsells both CL and TL by a factor of 10. Expect to see a price bump.
I'll still take FWD. Auto, with a choice of 6-speed.

What about RWD and 6 speed? Yes I want the best in life. And if the CL-S came in that configuration I'd be the first one to have it.

no, the mdx starts out as fwd (it shares the same platform as us) and switches to awd when needed.
i think the cl/tl needs to eventually leave the accord platform...'cuz it's that exact platform that saves us money, but it's the exact platform that keeps it from developing into what we really want.
