Before the flame starts, I don't have any picutres.

I was driving home tonight and this car in front of me (civic hatchback) had cleared their tail lights, they had absolutely no red color to them at all. It was as if they thought this would make the car look better. Anyone know if this is illegal?

 

that used to be the shit.... like early 90s... its not illegal if you got the right colored bulbs when they light up.

 

even with the colored bulb when lit they still look orange and ugly

 

having completely cleared out tail lights in California is illegal only if you have no red reflector anywhere on the rear of the car.

the new Lexus SUV has completely cleared out taillights but they can do that because they have red reflector lenses on the bumper.

no matter what color the lights light up, if you don't have any red reflector it's illegal. That's why so many people got pulled over for them when they were the hot shyt on the market.

that's one reason why the altezza style lights caught on, because they looked cool and they were somewhat clear.

 

The Federal law requires that from the side of the vehicle, you must be able to see orange in the front and red in the rear. Therefore, it would be illegal.

If I remember correctly, I think it was APC that was fined 1.3 million dollars by the Federal Governmennt for failing to meet that requirement. That's what happens when you manufacture something without checking the laws first. Idiots.

I about hit some stupid ass with a early 90's Civic(coupe) with this type of setup. because I'm used to seeing the "bright red" when people hit their brakes well Mr. cheesey ass ricer puts ALL CLEAR tail light len in and white bulbs(like you use for back up lights) and hits the brakes it's about 12 o clock or 1 so the sun about mid sky so i can't really see the white lights because sun's glare. I go into a slide to hit avoid him. I didn't hit him but came dang close to it. So on the next side road I turned off because I didn't want to possiblely hit him. It took me a little longer to get home but I got home safely.

so bottom line to the story: If you or have friends have ricers with clear tail lights make sure they ATLEAST have red bulbs. clear bulbs are dangerous.

by the way I about hit some idiot with APC Altezza lights also in a hard rain storm. couldn't see them. then I was about eating his back bumper.

the clear tails they use to sell WERE gen1 altezzas, or thats what i was told... i remember back about 8 years ago when my brother had them on his teg i told him they were ugly as shit, he took them off shortly after that... when he got a fix it ticket.

 

 

my worst mod are those port and polish intake runners(you can't feel or see them). Damn I was about to install those clear brake light on my 02 civic hatch. Now I have to think about it.

 

i few people still have those around here, they were the hit back in the day though
