600 HP from natural asprated motor no offence to Honda but a NSX motor can't touch that.:P
you think you blow trannies with Headers can you just think of 600 ponies
It would take a hell of engineering and custom work to get 600 HP out of even a 3.5 swap motor.(i think those are what 290-300 HP)
even if you had 100 shot of NOS you wouldn't touch that Mustang:P

You must post pics of the engine soon. I also have a 1st gen mustang. 66/289/2bbl/4spd. It is not fast yet but one day. If you ditched the 65 mustang and put that motor in a Factory Five Cobra, you would have a car that nothing could touch.

No offense...but its power per liter, and power to weight....and Honda has it beat all the way....and Honda can get 600 hp NA, just a lot of rework of the motor is all..., I mean really Ford can't even compete in any of the top racing competitions in the world...F1, Kart, even freaking IRL

Well, figure it this way .... ~600 hp n/a in a 408ci engine comes out to roughly 6.75L or 88hp/L. The CL-S is 3.2L or 81hp/L ..... kind of a silly point considering its a pushrod motor. Just imagine a cobra motor, DOHC 4V .... mmmmm hmmmmm. Anyways here are the pics.

you said hp to weight. Did I mention that my mustang sotck form the factory weights in at 2800lbs? 2800lbs/600hp ... not too bad and I dont think honda has me beat either!

Oh..., i'm not doubting your v8...but yeah honda does have it beat....power to weight....you can dump that motor in a 94 accord...and have no sound insulation or any of that cutesy stuff just like your mustang....basically a shell...and then you can get a stroker kit...for the CL....and voila...a lot more power per liter...face facts honda makes more power per liter....but 600 hp is a product of displacement...

I like v8s too do don't get me wrong...hehehehe...also a 4.6L DOHC from Ford isn't gonna make more power than your pushrod N/A....I mean Ford gave up on the Cobra N/A route...cuz it couldnt compete with the GM 5.7L, so they put a blower in it.

BTW, I can't see that engine!!!

Well, I do think that honda is more efficient when it comes to building engines but that is mainly because of the use of VTEC and a bunch of other engine electronics. Remember, when you are talking about all the 5L pre 1996 and 4.6 engines they are all pushrod non-overhead cam motors. Now, dont jump to conculesions when you say that ford could not compete with the 5.7. Remember the FR500 or even the cobra R? The cobra R had 385hp ...... TO THE WHEELS which would equate to around 500 at the crank. As far as the use of the SC on the new cobra, I welcome an engine with a power adder instead of just raw displacement - this will make the cobra faster than the z06 and also more streetable. Go ford!

why dopeople always compare ford's small engine to gm's large engine? when i had a 302 in my bronco only the 454's and 350's wanted to play. i never saw anyone with 305 asking me to dance. now i threw in a nicely massaged 351 with a KB S/C and the 454's all ran away. what's up with that?

saw what u will about the blue oval.....they still make the best selling vehicle in the world for the past 2 decades

nope...there are more f series trucks sold in the world than any other production vehicle. one thing ford can do is trucks. wow how off topic has this thread become. consider this - the assembly plants that put these bad boys together have their own medical facilities (not some rinky dink first aid office) / fire service / utilities company and so on. traffic lights and street names throughout as well.

Digitalgm, nice engine, what are the specs? I want to see a pic of your mustang. I don't care what anyone says, a 600hp small block ford is force to be reckoned with and a 65 mustang is not a heavy car ~3000lbs, much lighter than a 5.0 aor new one at ~3500lbs. That shiat will haul ass!

About the whole hp/l fight, I have yet to see Honda release a formidable (or any) V8 in a production car. How are u so sure their engineers will be so much better with high displacement??

I say ask Pull_T, he has a nice "Blue Oval" as well and I betcha he would hand just about any Acura it's ass!

I ain't hatin' either, I own an Acura now and have had 6 Mustangs in the past, and I am looking for my final pony car, a 1969 Fastback. I have the garage space to take my time and get her right, so that's what I shall get for my birthday present.

I still lay claim to 2 Fords in the family, but I also drive my CL with pride and joy!

I love the car, but I don't care for the wheels but that's just my opinion. Do you know if the 2000 "bullit" wheels will fit on a 66 with all Drums? Keep up the good work!

LOL... that's fine...they don't have to....the statement still holds though. lemme guess...only sales to 50+ indo-asian mothers of 2 or more internal medicine physicians count...is that about right?

it's a windsor. kept the bottom end pretty much to stock #'s. crank and rods are forged. pistons to handle NA almost 10:1. AFR heads w. 185CC chamber. the rockers are Crane gold and stock at 1.6:1 ratio. no bolts -ARP 12 point studs everywhere. valves are 1.06 and 1.20. can't find the cam profile just now - moved recently. jacobs ignition. ford lightning PCM. ford mass air - speed density conversion. 80mm MAF. 75mm TB. K&N cone. Kenne Bell 2.2L BLOWZILLA supercharger.

this is on a 92 bronco with a 4 inch lift and 35" meats...never rolled - never even close

oh...and on my third tranny and second driveshaft. would like to go to a 9" rear and a C6 trans but wanna play with the CL-s for a bit. i think it feels ignored

Yeah, I dont like the wheels either - I was not the one who put them on though. They were on the car when I bought it. I am looking at getting the Torw Thrust II's in chrome (17x11) with some nice Victor Racer V700 rubber on there 335/35/ZR17.... niiiice! As far as the bullitt wheels go, I dont know if they will fit or not. Have you taken a look at the torq thrusts or the D's?

Sounds VERY NICE bud!!! What pulley you got on the SC and how much boost are we talking about? Got any pictures - this sounds like a very nice car!

anytime any car maker can get 100 HP per Liter(or close) that car will RUN:P . look at S2000, the last series Prelude(195 HP almost 100 HP per Liter),Integra Type R.
could you imagine if the Accord or CL-S was 100 HP a Liter that means 300 HP for the Accord(which it's getting closer with the 03 at 240 HP:P) and 320 HP for the CL(that thing would SCREAM )

I love the II's in 17". Nice wheels but the Bullit Wheels are like $400 on ebay. I have heard that they don't fit but I want to know why. Ask any mustang buudies you may if they know. No one around here has been able to tell me.
