Wipers

I noticed our wipers are pretty weird. that little strip of metal seems pretty odd. I know I had alot of trouble with my old Legends wipers falling apart. Anyway, has anyone replaced their stock wipers with something else? All the ones at Wal-mart and hte like rusted. Any of you change wiper blades? Whats the best?

Mine are still fairly new, but if I were to replace 'em, I'd seriously consider these PIAA's -

Carbon fiber finish, silicone construction. Not sure if it's or not...

What about the whole blade? Not just the rubber inserts.

I'm pretty sure it's the whole blade assembly and not just the refill.

Anco.

Cost $4.00 a piece (whole assembly) at WalMart [never rusted]. Lasts 6 months. Replace them in July; another $4.00 a piece. Change them next January, $4.00 a piece, etc, etc,

I have the PIAA's on order. They should be here by Friday. As soon as I get them, I will post pics and report on how they work. It is raining pretty good here now, so I should be able to give you a good report.

what size wipers do we take? I looked in the manual but I couldn't find the size and track auto didn't have an up to date book. I bought some for a 99 tl but they weren't the right size.

Do the PIAAs have that goofy metal wire along the length of the rubber insert? My old legend had that and it used to come out. I replaced them with Penske blades and they were alot better. No wild and crazy metal noodle.

stained windows

Generations, if the stain is a streak, then you need to take it in for service. There is a service bulletin on this. You have a 2002? I thought they would have fixed this problem in the new model year.

Did you mention to your dealer that you may need new wiper blades? My dealer threw new ones on for free.

There is indeed a TSB for the wipers. I took my car to PArk Ave a few months ago and they changed the fluid, wipers, and the plastic tubing that carries the fluid. No more streaks

The blades seem in good condition, but on my last Acura, the little metal strip would come out anf flop all over the place. It scratched the crap out of the paint above the windshield. My mother's 1990 Legend had the same problem, but the highest speed on the wipers was alot slower than on my 87.... Can't say I appreciate the solution to that problem. So I ended up replacing the wiper assembly with Penske inserts and blades on the 87 and 90 legends. Three years later the blades are OK, but the inserts get replaced every three months. Not a problem when you buy them at Wal-mart for a buck! But I'm not putting something that costs a buck on the CL.
Let me know how thost PIAAs work, and what part number you ordered.

Can't they think of somethign better than that goofy metal strip? I made up my mind not ro replace them until that metal strip gives me trouble. If that strip comes off and damages the paint, will fixing the paint and wipers be covered under warranty?
