windshield wipers...ours suck!

I have had my car since October last year and the the windshield wipers are already streaking on the drivers side and not working on the passenger side. The passenger side wiper clears a 1-2 inch strip on either end of the blade leaving the middle totally untouched. I have fiddled with the a few times thinking maybe they were frozen or a pebble was caught or something but the look fine. WTF? Anyone else have similar problems? Do you think I should ddeal with the dealership or just buy some better blades and skip the hassle? If the latter, which blades do you recommend?

Did you buy the Sillblades locally or did you order them?

I don't think that it is a problem with the widshield. I am guessing that whatever spring or tension is used to keep the blade against the windshield is shot. Probably just a bad wiper.

NAshua...I am guessing that by "directly" you ordered your Silblades from specialty silicone products? sspinc.com?

ahh, guys, all wipers suck and wear out quickly, think about it. - its soft rubber that is always exposed to the elements, plus dust, ice, sap, pine needles, leaves, of course they will wear out, i use rain-x - all you need with that on your windshield is something to push the beading droplets off

mine have been stuttering a lot especially in the cold mornings. Can the silicone blades help in this situation?

I wasn't really talking about the blades wearing out...mroe just NOT WORKING. I can see that happening especially if you have a well worn/pitted windshield. I only have 5K for mileage on this car and the passenger side wiper just doesn't do it's job. If I can only get 5000 miles or less than 3 months out of a pair of Acura blades then I will certainly be upgrading.

All rubber windshield wipers suck. Like acura_service said, they're exposed to the elements and they degrade. End of story.

I think I'll get the silblade when the time comes. Siliconized rubber/plastic is a much more durable product.

LOL, out wipers do suck and sometimes contribute to poor visibility in rainy conditions. When I took in my '03 in for an oil change at my dealer, they check a bunch of things, including the wipers. The tech informed me that I might need to replace my blades, but he did not even realize my car only had about 3K miles on the clock! He sprayed some solution on the blades and said it should be fine! If your blades really wear out though, don't get the OEMs!

Honda windshield wipers suck... plain and simple. Even the NSX was horrible!! You'd think they would put some nice ones on a $90K car!

boshe micro edge are good. your blades will last longer if you spray some window cleaner on a cloth and wipe down the blade till the the black smuge becomes a light black and your blades will wipe like almost new.

try it you'll be supprised how much crap builds up on your blades and how that the main prob.

I just buy the oem inserts, they are cheap enough, i don't have to worry if they don't fit exactly right, i just change them a few times a year

If the glass is dirty or pitted, the results are not going to be too great.

PIAA Super Silicone Wiper blades and Bosch Micro Edge Excel blades are both made to help with streaking and chatter.

Rain-X and other people have windshield washer additives that will help "lube" the window.

303-Protectant has a product that can be wiped on the blades.

And, one of my favorites:

(I use this to clean and protect my glass and hide some of the smaller pits. I also put Zaino on the top too...

http://www.diamondite.com/welcome.htm

The Diamondite has three parts: glass cleaner, suspended clay (foaming cleaner) and polycarbonate protection layer.

Glass can look clean and not be.

The TSB replaces some of the washer fluid hoses which were dissolving with washer fluid and causing windows to streak. They replace with silicone and give you new blades. See my next post for a list of all tsb's

THE TSB is for older CLS models. The thread starter has a 2003 model. The problem has been fixed in the newer models.

I saw a bulletin on the NHTSA site about problems with the wipers streaking. You may want to do a search on their site. If your cars still under warranty have the dealer fix it.

Hey Eric ! Happy New Year ! Your windshield solution looks good. Make in Louisiana ! Which one of the 3 products do you recommend ? All three ? Is this like "rain X" ?
thanks !

Since my CL-S is garaged, I still have the originals and still works great. No streaking or chatter. But I hardly use them since I DRYWASH the whole car and it works like RainX on all the glass.

I use all three cans. IMO, the "spray clay" and the polycarbonate protector are the hot items.

I ran into the owner from a contact with another vendor.

It's not really like rain-x, it's more a cleaner and protector (if your talking about the Diamondite "kit").

I use the "WHOLE 3-part/step kit" and then put Zaino on top.

If you only had water spots or crud in the glass, you could just get the spray clay.

Have a great year!

After my wipers were stuck in ice last year the swing of the wiper arms is way out of adjustment. Strikes drivers side door pillar. Is this an easy fix or adjustment on a 2003 CLS?
Plz help.

Loosen the nut that holds the arm on, reposition and try the wipers to see if they hit or not.

Yes I had this issue on my car I thought I was the blades. I tried three different types! Nope... The spring was still good but not tight enough I guess. I figured it had the be the arm. So I bough a New wiper arm and it completely solved the issue.
