windshield replaced (tape)

I just got my windshield replaced and they have 2 pieces of tape on the top of the windshield and go back towards the sunroof. They said that I have to keep it on there for 2 days. Is this true? What is the reason for this?

but the tape doesn't run all the way arround the edge of the windshield only two verticle strips. see pic. the blue rectangles represent the tape.

When mine was replaced, the tape went around the windshield. IT was to let the glue dry without dirt getting into it.

I had the same tape on my windshield also. (Non Acura) It's to keep the window in place while the glue dries. Take it off in 2 days.

hey sometimes from far away it almost looks like a racing stripe

okay j/k

i've got mine replaced 2 weeks ago... yes, leave it there, and be sure not to slam the door with both the windows closed. This will cause pressure to shoot straight at the windshield, and could loosen it. Just be careful until tomorrow, and then take the tape off

It actually keeps the black rubber moulding around the window in place so it doesn't fly off when you're driving. The glue (I believe it's actually silicone) needs to cure.

Retention tape plays an important role in holding the windshield onto its frame, ensuring the windshield remains in proper position while the adhesive and sealant dry. But how long to leave tape on after windshield replacement? The answer is around 24-48 hours.
