Windshield Refinish

My 01 CL S had a million little tiny sand blasted spots on the windshield from the 44,000 miles on Georgia roads. No fun to look through at night or when the sun is low in the sky.

JC Whitney sells a kit with cerium oxide or something like that and a special polishing wheel for a hand drill.

Anybody tried this ?

Rain-X does not help.

I've heard horror stories about the cheap replacement windshields but don't want to pay for the Acura version (yet).

I got a new windshield made by PPG for $220 installed just outside of DC. PPG makes windshileds for several manufacturers as OEM glass.

I have never tried the JC Whitney glass polishing kit, but you may want to call a body shop and see if they have any ideas. I know that sometimes overspray from paint can get on glass, and they have a special method to remove the overspray. I can imagine that their same method might be what you need done to your windshiled.

Goodluck!

He is absolutley right!!!.... there is no SUCH thing as "A.C.U.R.A." glass, or O.E.M. replacement... spend the the 200 and get a new windshiled put in... They will come right to you and do it in less than an hour.

These "refinishing" products will not remove the sandblasted pits from flying debris. Don't waste your money.

I got my windshield replaced in DE with PPG glass for $210 installed. I'm sure you can find someone in GA with similar pricing.

I would suggest you take it to someone, rather than having them come to you. I found the prices to be much higher for those traveling glass shops.

Thanks guys. Will replace it.

I've read on here that there are aftermarket windshields that are distorted to look through. Name brand it will have to be for me.

Where in DE...?

I may be in the market if I keep my 02.

I had water spots etched into all of the glass on my car from it being on the lot in So. Fla. (lots of salt in the air).

I took my car to Custom Sun Control on Cobb Pkwy (near the Nalley Acura dealer). They got it out of all of the windows for $100. It may be cheaper for just the windshield.
