I was just wondering whether or not it is actually possible for a cop to give you a ticket for your window tints. I've heard of it happening, but do they judge only by looking at how dark the window is? Also, can they pull you over for that?
I have 35% on my front, which is the CT state limit, but I want to go darker, and am wondering whether or not it is worth it.

Yes they can give you a ticket- check your state. It's pretty much luck of the draw. I've been a-okay with 35%-front 20%-rear for the past 8 months. My friend has had 20% tint on his cars for the past 6 years w/o any issues. But you could just get screwed with an a-hole cop who needs to fill quota or something.

And I heard that, in some jurisdictions, the police carry equipment to check out exactly how much light transmission your windows have.

I've been pulled over three times already and given one ticket and never had a problem yet. I just always roll down my front two windows. My friend did get a ticket for illegal tint. The cops here have a light meter that they stick up to the window that tells them how much light is let in. In FL, the legal limit is only 20% on the fronts and limo elsewhere.

I got pulled over for speeding and the cop asked me to roll up my window half way. He pulled out a device that fit on both sides of the window and displayed the tint percentage....kind of like a breathalyzer for the windows. Long story short...he saw my military id and I got out of everything...counting my lucky stars.
