Will my car get totalled?

last night I got in an accident and after my friend and I were like its totalled. To my surprise when I went to the junk yard today the yard employee said it wouldn't. Is he right or clueless?

http://home.comcast.net/~johnlemvp/accident/

Oh and in my simulation you can't tell but the guy in the firebird accelerated too hard or something cuz his rear end broke lose and he got sidewayz.

These are the parts that I could tell needed replacement. (No engine bay stuff cuz it didn't check it out)

Front Bumper
Fr Upper Beam
Hood
INSULATOR, HOOD
R Side Fender
L Side Fender

Front Grille Assembly:
Front Grill
MOLDING, FR. GRILLE
MOLDING, FR

L Head Light Housing
L Fog Lamp Housing

Seat Belts
Drive Air Bag
Passenger Air Bag
Wind Shield (Maybe just a crack)
COVER, FR. BULKHEAD

The airbags did deploy and there is a lot of front end damage however if i were to guess i'd say it wasn't totaled.

Awesome simulation however. So the cop was waiting in Mickey D's?

Well from the exterior damage I calculated like $2700 in parts not including labor or paint or the air bags or any engine bay parts that were damaged. I used http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org for part prices.

Yeah the cop just happened to be there. Lucky I guess

from what I remember it's like 50-60%...if the total amount of repairs needed is greater than 50-60% of the cars worth then it's totaled...I'm sorry but it doesn't look totaled to me either but I could be wrong

Tough luck, but sweet simulation!

All you can see from that pic is the cometic damage, plus we know the airbags went off. When you open the hood and see if any part of the engine needs work (I'd guess minimum that the radiator is shot, and go backwards from there), and check if the frame was bent at all, then you'll know more.

At least that's how it would make sense to me - I've also heard of claims adjusters that will just go walk around the car, scribble down some notes without looking in the engine or getting it on a lift, and make a decision from there. So go figure!

I hate to say I'm speaking from experience but my car looked just like that after my accident(both cars traveling about 25- 30) and at first i was told they thought it would be totalled and it wasnt, they did include all my aftermarket shit as part of the value but the total was like 11,000 and the vehicle was valued at 25000, but it did come out good after about three weeks in the shop

I worked at a body shop for 2 years... No way in hell the car is totaled. No bodyshop will loose that job..if its totaled they make no money on it...therefore not to many cars get totaled. Especialy since the cars worth a lot of money and i think it was 75-85% of book value to total. Even then there are ways around that.

I used to inspect cars for an Auto Insurance companyand it is not totalled. I can tell you that you have front frame damage, but not that significant. I think it is just the front rails were pushed downward and in. Find a shop that has a Genesis frame machine, it will pull the frame back to within factory specs. The Genesis machine uses laser to measure your frame and it is very accurate. Try to open your doors and see if they are sticking. If they are, then you might have additional damage to your frame. Depending on insurance companies, 70-75% is the number they use to declare if your car is a total or not.

they will use the average of nada retail and red book retail if it is totaled add tax and other dmv fees

you also have to remember after that if you have had frame damage do you want to keep the car

what do you mean other ways around that? do you mean the shop will do it for less$

The doors do stick but I thought it was due to the fenders. Not sure though.

It'll probably cost about 10 grand or more to fix. Insurance companies don't go by KBB. They have their own numbers.

It typically requires about 60% of the car's value in damages to consider the car totalled. You are right on the borderline. If you want it totalled, be there when the insurance adjuster looks at your car. Or if the shop has a direct repair shop contract (like AAA), then the shop writes the estimate on behalf of AAA. In which case, you should talk to them.

That was about 1,500 dollars in repair costs. Yours would cost about 10,000, probably a little more. That would be over 50% of your car's value, but it requires 60%. Talk to the shop/aduster and tell 'em about the diminished value of the car now due to the accident, and how it'll never be the same. Technically, it's your problem, not theirs, but depending on adjusters, they might bend the rules a little bit.

Good luck and sorry to hear about your misfortune.

It could be either, they will have to measure it on the frame machine to see.

I own a body shop in Sacramento, and I can assure you that your car is not totaled. I own a TL-S and my assistant owns a CL-S, so we are very familiar with your car. I can provide you with an estimate to submit to you insurance company so you can get the job done right. I would just need a few things from you to do this. If you want I will even pay for the transport to and from our facility in Sacramento. We also provide a lifetime warranty on the work we perform. If you are interested shoot me an e-mail at 007@916technik.com. But I can assure you that your car is not totaled, and there is not set rule for totaling a vehicle; it’s typically 80% but varies from case to case.

Thanx for the generous offer, but if its not totalled I would like it fixed relatively quickly. Sending it off to Cali would just add more to the repair time. I could also cause some communication/distance problems, like what if I don't like the results and etc. Just not practical for me.

You know what at second look you may be right. But its hard to tell from pictures, the angle may make it look that way. But the passenger side tire looks straight and the driver side is clearly turned. But i could be wrong.
