Why Debadge?

I was wondering why debadging your car is so important...I just do not get it...why do you do it?

Some people do it to hide the fact that they have a type-S. Others do it because they like the clean look of a plain rear end. Some have their emblems stolen and don't have much choice. I personally like the way the chrome emblems look against the black paint on my car. Its a good contrast.

IMO, it looks a lot cleaner. I wish I had shaved my arse when I first got it. Now it's too late... sniff...

I think it just looks cleaner

There is no reason for the giant A C U R A...especially since there is an Acura emblem directly over it.

I kept the acura symbol and the ACURA name. IMO, looks symmetrical and clean.

But they just might look good on my SM Red CLS

Some of the Kids debadge their cars, so you can't tell at first look that they have the "cheap" model. I see alot of BMW 323/325's debadged, but I've never seen a //M3 debadged

My thought also...I am proud of the fact that I have a type-s.

I like my debadged first gen, I constantly see people trying to figure out what kind of car it is. I don't have an emblem on the front either

I see debadged high class cars out here ALL the time. E55, M3, etc.

heat the letters up with a hair dryer, then slide dental floss behind it to cut through the glue.

then get some goo gone or adhesive remover and start scrubbing.

the glue was tough to get off on mine, I had to soak it in adhesive remover and then scrape it off with a credit card, then go back for the small stuff with a sponge.

then put on a few coats of wax

don't try to take off the A symbol though, that has holes through the metal behind it.

That's why I did it... took off the 3.2TL and the Type-S. Actually balances the back of the car out nicely too.

As for how to remove it... I did exactly what beetroot described. I did it a week after I got the car, so my emblems weren't as stuck as his were. Just removed them, quick wipe with Goo-Gone, then some wax, and done... took about 10 min. total.

i was thinking about taking off the ACURA letters, but my car is gonna be 4 yrs old in June. I am thinking you would still see the letters as the black paint might have faded around it.

I never understood the concept of de-badging either.
It’s not like someone is gonna see that there’s no Type-S emblem and say….oooo I’m gonna beat him in a race.
Except for the ease of WAXING/POLISHING I see no other reason.

The only cars I see driving around my area without emblems are the el-cheapo base models that the owners are tying to pass off as the upper line models.

Just in case you missed it the first time around

Couple of people had the Type-S badge jacked and their car was scratched.. so figured I'd just remove it myself and save the headache.

I never like the big A C U R A in the middle of the trunk...nobody designs a car around an name badge. Acura threw it in there at the last second cause they noticed the trunk looked too plain without it and figured....its more a design error than asthetics.

Porsche is really the only one that can get away with that cause it pretty much tells you what it is

turbo
carrera4s
targa
911

that looks hot but Acura in the middle...I dont see what acura was thinking ???

Yes, I understand YOUR reasons.
I just have to laugh at how people think they’re running a “Q-Ship” just because it has no emblems.

10 minutes for just the 3.2TL part right? You kept the A C U R A?

because it took me 10 minutes per letter, plus 10-15 for the 3.2CL part....

I took mine off after about a year, had someone else scrub the glue off. I waxed it the next day, still need to try and get the little bit of adhesive stuck on there, only I notice it.

And I did it because everyone seemed to always want to drive fast when they saw my car. I also like the smoother look for washing, drying, waxing.

i don't like the ACURA letter against silver. But I do like it on the San Marino Red. If i had red, I would have kept the letters, and maybe on the black. But every other color, I would have taken off everything but the A symbol.
