Why Aftermarket Muffler/Cat back does not add HP on the CLS?

Sure the stock mufflers are free flowing some 30% more than CLP. On a stock CLS, Aftermarket Muffler/Cat back may not add HP....

But what about those CLS pushing 230 WHP on 5AT and 250 WHP on the 6-MT....

Is there a need or is it possible for power adding aftermarket Catback/mufflers?

The Greddy Cat-back adds 10hp...but for like $700-$900 is not worth it...if you think headers providing 30hp was not worth $900, then the Greddy is definitely not worth it. The other axle-back provide 1-2hp. I think this is what your asking for.

Sure about that? I highly doubt it.

I am seeing some WRX mufflers/catback that add some 10-18 WHP... so how about CLS?

Is it possible to have a $300-$400 exhaust that adds some 15-18 WHP?

the comptech's give around 2~3 hp. i initiallly had cai and a headers, but once I put the cat back exhaust on, the revvs where MUCH smoother. I don't see a point if your just going to install exhaust w/out a intake or header, unless your going just for show

Someone correct me if im wrong, but arent the axle back exausts the same size tubing as stock? So this means all gains in flow must come from the mufflers. So instead of shelling out $400+ for some mufflers, why not just chop the old ones out, go buy some $90 flowmasters or some comparable brand, weld them back in the stock location and presto! Free[er] flowing exaust system for much cheaper.

If you look at the piping...it is bigger on the aftermarket mufflers...

Increase in exhaust flow doesn't equal to gain in horsepowers across the rpm range. It almost always means decrease or no gain in hp in the low to mid rpm range, and some gain in high rpm range. What this means is that unless you keep your rpm close to 5000-7000 revs, your car's driverability is worst than no aftermarket CAI or exhaust.

Putting a free flowing exaust on might raise the torque peak higher into the rpm range, but with only a axle back exaust like most people do it shold only move the torque curve a couple hundred rpm. Now if you were to use a full exaust system [headers/bigger y-pipe/bigger mid pipe/ high flow cat convertor/ axle back] then yes your going to move the torque curve way up. But that kind of exaust is only really needed after major mods are done to the engine to improve the amount of air being pumped threw the engine, and by that time you should have gained enough torque to offset the peak coming in higher in the RPM band.

As far as I know, flowmaster dosent make mufflers just for the cl-s. They dont really make very many specail mufflers at all. Most people just buy the type they want [mild, loud, really loud] and weld it up
