Who's the best drag racer

Okay race fans! Who's up for some sort of AcuraZine wide competition?

The idea is to have several racing categories and you can enter as many as you like. The categories could be:

- Fastest 1/4 mile CL, CLS, TL. TLS, etc
- Best 60' time
- Best reaction time (average of 2 or 3 runs)
- Highest trap speed

Races would be held on a regional level during a given month or two. Yes, it'd be awesome if we could all meet together, but I can't imagine folks coming to Texas from all over the US. :P So the idea is to do some sort of regional based event. we'd need some ground rules, judges to enforce those ground rules and someone to log the weather conditions and such so it can be applied to some formula to normalize the results.

SO, what's the thought on this?

Could there be sub-classes? i.e. CL-P, CL Type-S, stock, bolt-ons (NA), S/C and Turbo?

i agree with chuckstl, there should be sub classes....

maybe talk with the mega mods (soopa) and have an entrance fee... prizes to the top of the categories, and some $$ for a-zine

Sorry guys, all those old times go out the door. This is going to be a net new deal where we will have categories, rules and judges to normalize everything as best possible.

As for classes, the idea is to have multiple classes so more folks will come out to each regional event. Of course only one can truely be called the fastest and best overall!

So get out and get your modding, tuning and skills ready before the big event. Which will likely be in Spring sometime as many tracks are closed for the season. However, that gives us all pleanty of time to pull this together and get your cars ready.

Yes, that's my thought when I said track & weather conditions would be factored in.

We need someone who knows what the key factors are so they can be recorded on the day of the race. Then how to put a model together to normalize the data for the final comparisons. This wouldn't have a bearing on reaction times and possibly 60' times.

It is very hard to factor in weather conditions with a precise formula. Unlike altitude correction.

Also track conditions is a variable we can't control at all. Each contestant should choose the track that they feel is best suited to their car and their ability.

Hmmm....

12.9x @ 111.xx mph with the old turbo kit
13.57 @ 103 mph Naturally Aspirated
13.9 @ 99 or something (I forget) with I/H only....

I don't mean to brag

You can supposedly correct for weather pretty accuarately using the density altitude. Some tracks provide this info, some don't. I believe you need to have the track elevation, dew point or relative humidity, air temp, and barometric pressure.

Sounds like an interesting competition, too bad you guys can't all get together, the Grand Prix community does an annual gathering in the midwest, though there probably a lot more people modding GPs than CLs.

Good luck and have fun!!!

This is a great idea. I'd be game even if I do suxor. I'd have to compete in the TLS bolt-ons category! NH, NY, or NJ work for me as far as track.

I think all the categories should be an average. A fluke run here or there could skew the final results.

We go to the Texas Motorplex in Ennis. Just a little less than an hour south of Dallas.

No date yet, but no sooner than March as the tracks are closed until then.

This gives everyone enough time to plan and prep their cars and skills. Hear that Chopper . . . you got 3-4 mos to work on your 6-speed skills.

I take it that this is JUST for the Acura TLS/CLS TL/CL and not our "other" cars, right?

What do you mean? I'd say it whould be open to any model listed on the ACURAZINE site. Yes?

I'm not the owner of this potential event . . . just throwing out an idea.

I hope it's open to all our cars, but I just thought since this is an Acura site, that it's most likely set up for Acuras.
