who would buy the new rx-8

After reading a couple of reviews in mags...the car looks amazing..it came first...beating the cobra , g35coupe and bmw 330
Its light as hell; the reason why its so much fun to drive.....the styling is pretty good and personally i like the front fenders alot.
The price is awesome. And it has four seats with better space then the inifinity and the cobra.

i am liking it and maybe jus maybe will pay my local mazda dealer a visit.
Now ....the question is..who would get it??
AND...
will u get a 350Z over it?

WHY?

PH

Maybe I will get the next MPS version pushing over 300 HP with some more torque. You need also to have a second car as the trunk is pretty useless. Nice ride, once hooked up well it would be very hot ride. (Performance mod would very few as it is tuned to the max by factory).

It stock brakes are even better than Brembos. Less stoping distance!

IMHO, the RX8 has one major problem that makes it impractical: teacup sized trunk. One can't really take a long trip with it, let alone carry overnights for those 4 passengers. The Nissan Z and Infiniti clone have the same problem. A Vette has 3 times the trunk and the CL's is even bigger.

Now I realize there are those who will pooh-pooh the need of a trunk but not having one reduces the car to an urban toy. That's fine if that's all you want.

To keep the weight less than 3000 lb there is no other option for Mazda. Now, the 2 seat RX-7 succerssor may give a bigger trunk space (hatch back) but you lose 2 Full seats.

Now was it possible for Mazda to design the back seat as removable, doubling the space of the trunk?

I'm seriously considering a switch to an RX-8 in the future. The lack of torque is a turn off, but the styling, handling, and practicality of four seats are all pluses. Yeah, trunk space is pretty small, but judging by the flatness of the rear trunk you could probably get an exterior trunk tray like they have for the Miatas.

So is there confirmation they will be coming out with the MPS version?

The reveiw I say stated that the car is impractial unless you plan on driving around at 8-9K all day long because that is the only band that it builds power. Yea I realize that most of you will say thats great I will drive at 8-9K but if you think about it that would get anoying very fast.

Its the same with the s2000 and how many of those do you see around. I see tons. Just because people dont know how to drive them properly doesnt mean they wont sell.

And i would buy it. over the 350z? I would have to drive both first then decide i like them both.

it does have power but it uses everything for it to barely keep up with the cL-S and 350Z. My grudge with the car is why have 4 seats with no torque. Even if the car will drive somewhat nice once you put 3 or 4 people in the car that car will drag ass.

Seriously if you want to be able to haul people around and have trunk space you need a 6 cylinder. I think if Mazda wanted to come out with a competitor to the 350Z then make it a 2 seater and give it more trunk room to carry things around then it would sell..,Its llike selling a cargo van that can carry 6 passenger and put in a 1.8 liter with 190 HP and like 145 tq they car fully loaded is useless.

IMO

I'd take a 350Z, G35, or CLS6 over it. Not because its a bad car but I'm willing to give up some handling capabilities for more brute power. My priorities are different.

RX-8 looks good and the reviews make it sound good as well.

I would seriously consider it, but the lack of torque is a big down side. Can't they get more torque out of the rotary engine??
A Sports Car with little torque??

MPS is more or less a done deal... expect 300 HP and some 25 lbft more, at least 25 lbft.... I heard also that Mazda is working on new kind of Supercharger (Called Hydrolic SuperCharger whatever it is)

Rotarys traditionally have very weak low end torque.

A sports car is defined by its handling, not its power vs. Muscle cars that are all power...no handles.

If you know ppl who have worked on rotarys, they'll tell you the motor is bulletproof. There are a lot of tweaks available for the rotary to make lots of hp. Also, the rotary will keep making power to 12k if it is allowed to rev that high and has sufficient fuel.

If it's like the S2000, you'll need a freakin' shoe horn to get in...never mind out!

I like it, but wouldn't buy it because there are too many choices out there. But comparing it to 350Z, I still prefer RX-8 more. For about the same amount of money, my first choice would definitely be the Acura TSX now.

I agree completely.. If the RX-8 had the CL V-6 (set back for weight distribution) it would be an awesome car.

the 50-50 weight ratio is sweet. the car is a looker and i hear its amazing in the twistys.

i cant imagine that torque though. passing on the highway would always require a downshift.

i would take the svt over all 3 because....there just seems to be something special and unique and exotic about it

Fuzzy makes an accurate statement. IMHO, "Real power" is measured more by torque than horsepower. Like the S2000, the RX8 has very limited powerband where you have to really thrash it to make it perform. And it WILL perform when you drive it hard. (This DOES help to qualify it as an enthusiast car.)

To the contrary 350Z or even CLS has a MUCH more useable powerband; wherever you are in the powerband, you can give it 1/2 throttle and it'll pull hard.

In fairness to Mazda though, it's very impressive to generate 159lb-ft torque out of only 1.3 liters. The S2K generates about the same with a full 2 liters.

And @ $28G the RX8 IS priced to sell!! And sell, it will!!
