who loves thier CL?
I love this car, but I am leasing and want to get out of it and purchase before I spend waaay to much money.
BTW why did they stop making the CL in 2003? It was the best one.
Who else loves thiers![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
the only thing I don't like is the choppy throttle response, on/off

Why acura cut them is a mystery, but i'd be willing to bet 99% of the people that own/lease them, love them. As soon as i first saw them i wanted one, and when i test drove mine, i couldn't stop smiling. From the first gen CL to the 2nd gen CL, I've always thought they looked classy and different, but tasteful. Honda definitely came up with a great car with the CL, i'm guessing they got cut just because the demand for such a car has slowly been declining. Even down to the last year, the CL was pretty much the best bang for the buck in it's class. Most of the features that came standard on the CL were expensive options for the BMW 3 series, Mercedes-Benz C class, or the Lexus IS. Granted, most of these cars are sedans with no coupe option, but they are still primarily in the same class as the CL was. Since the first drive, I fell in love with it and I plan on keeping it as long as possible.

There's no sale to why they cut this model out of their line up. Slow sales, and there just wasn't a market for it.
Then Nissan/Infiniti released the G35 coupe a couple of years later, and some will argue did it right (RWD with high horsepower), and took all those sales.

Yes it was, when the 2nd gen CL coupe was out, although it's a solid car, the sales were still slow. Acura chalked it up as there being no market for the car (then cut it), then infiniti came in after to swoop up all the sales.

<---loves his CL-S. I've only had it for about 4 weeks, and I still get excited whenever I drive it.
I have no idea why the Acura stopped production on the CL, but what the other's have said seems to make a lot of sense. Hopefully they'll come out with a rwd coupe in the future.

I still love my CL. There isn't another car out there that makes me want to get rid of it (and I'm really thinking about going back to a rwd vehicle). It says alot when the FWD CLS 6spd w/ LSD can keep me happy.
I don't know the "official" reason behind the discontinuation of the CL, but with only 16,000 sold (both CL and CLS models) one would have to think it was due to slow sales. With the 2003 Accord EX V6 coupe being made available with a 6mt in early 2003, that probably helped honda/acura make the decision to pull the plug on the CL.
No. The CLS was discontinued in June/July 03... The G35c was out in the end of 2002.
I got my CLS on 10/03/02. The G35c came out in late Nov/early Dec 2002. We heard about the "rumors" of the discontinuation of the CL in Jan. 2003 (when the dealers got a $1000 dealer incentive to move the CL's).
I almost didn't pull the trigger on my CL 'cause I was waiting for the G35c to come out. The interior of the CLS was more to my liking then the G35 (I sat in the sedan).
It was funny, 'cause when I was signing the papers for my CL, I had a great view of the infiniti showroom (about 15ft away). Inskip had their BMW, Acura and Infiniti showrooms in a row. I think the acura dealership is moving down the road now tho'.
I almost bought a 2002 accord EX V6 for 1700 under invoice, but I really wanted a manual transmission, and the 2003 accord 6mt coupe wasn't coming out till March 2003.

they replaced it with the 03 accords v6s. 240 HP was the middle ground between the non s and type s. and the accords sold a lot more than the CLs.
so slow sales, horrible tranny design, a lot in recall money lost, and the redone TL promising great sales (which they do, hell i got someone to get a 06 TL over a 06 G35 without much work..) then take out the integra, toss in the RSX and TSX (euro accord) and you get a new lineup for a new market.
and if you look around i guess they were right.. im sure they sell A LOT more RSXs and TSXs now then they did CLs and Integras.. and TLs for that fact.. however i cant help but wonder what a redone CL would have looked like if thats what the redone TL looks like.. hmm. guess we'll never know.

I have to say and i've driven all the Coupes in the last few months... G35, CLK55, BMW645ci Accord coupe... and for the money especially with NAVI, for the money nothing beats the CLS, sure it has the tranny problem...i can deal with that but i cant deal with 100K warranty.
If i can find an 03,grey/blk/navi...i'd be very temped to buy it... but right now its the 645ci is it worth 80K no way, if i can find a certified one around low 60s with low miles in good condition i'll jump on it..

the tranny problems were only on the automatics. I wonder if being the last year of production (mine is an "03) will have any effect on the value of the car, good or bad

I love my car! Unless someone shows up at my house with a free or extremely cheap Ferrari 360 Modena, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Nothing on the road catches my eye worth trading for. Love it.

Love my car. Its a SSM 6 speed. I personally think it looks better than the G35 coupe, plus everybody and their girlfriend has that car and its inside is pretty shitty looking. Plus I got my CL-S for 21k with only 20000 miles on it. best deal out there for what it has to offer.
