Who has pulled their engine?
I'm looking to pull my engine from my car to the timing belt, water pump, motor mounts, a/c tensioner, clutch and valve adjustment. Figured it would be much easier to do all outside the engine bay.
Any one who has done this have any advice on this topic. I searched for engine removal and dropping engine and didn't really find much.
Thanks.
Oh, I'll take lots of pictures when I do it though!

main seals for sure. but you dont really have to pull the engine for all of this. the clutch will require a tranny drop but other wise everything can be done under the hood.

Ya, I kinda figured the engine drop would be over kill, but thought it would be fun and make it easier to do the work on the engine! Plus I was going to put the epoxy in all my engine mounts. I'll see how it all goes. Thanks for the advice!

Ive pulled my motor before, you could pull the whole thing in a matter of 2 hrs (or less for those who have done it before). Its VERY easy on the TL. Unhook a few things(rad hoses ps pump a few grounds, shifter cable and unplug a few connections on the drivers side), pull the wire harness (unhook from ecu) thru firewall and leave attached to motor, un hook exhaust from cat, leave trans attached lift from the top. As your lifting separate the axles from trans that way you dont have to take them out of the knuckles.
Overkill for what you want to do but not that hard to do

Did you lift the engine out or drop it out? The manual says you drop it out the bottom...but it would be much easier to pull it through the top.
Part of me wants to pull just to do it! Then I can clean it up and see how everything works...dam engineer in me!

If you drop it you have to remove the sub-frame and I think this will throw out the alignment when you put it back together, so you'll have to get it aligned afterwards. I'm not sure if you can pull it from the top and leave the sub-frame/cross member in place? I seem to remember a service tech @ the stealer telling me it had to be moved to pull the trans to do the clutch also.

If you drop it you have to remove the subframe and bumper, then find a way to lift the car over it.

If your goin to do all that while doing a clutch, You might as well pull out the engine. The only thing that makes taking out a engine long is pulling out axles, and mounts, and since axles are coming out anyways, you should just take out the engine. You will be happy you did when doing the timing belt.

Sorry to bring this old thread back, but I'm pulling the motor on my 03 Accord and can't find any info on that so I figured i'd look here since they're very similar cars.
Manual says to go from the bottom but since I'm working out of a garage w/o a lift I would rather go from the top, is it possible to unbolt the motor from the trans and just pull the motor or is there not enough clearance to slide the motor off the trans shaft?

what i meant to say was u can pull the motor and manual tranny out together from the top.
as far as removing the motor with auto tranny together, u can only take them out from the bottom.
You will have to separate them in order to take the motor out from the top (in auto)

Pull the trans with the motor. You will thank yourself later. Unbolting it is much easier outside of the car, and mating them back together is much easier outside the car.
