Whining Sound
I have a 2003 Automatic Cl-S, with about 3750 miles on it. Recently, when I have had my radio off and have accelerated aggresively, I hear the nice rumble that the car makes, but I also hear a real high pitched whining sound. Is this normal, if not I have a oil change in about a week, so I might ask Acura.

Could be your tranny... the motor very rarely makes a 'whining' sound. Sometimes if you have an aftermarket amplifier or something and your radio is ON (and the supply wire for the amp is not shielded well) you will get a 'whine' through the speakers when the cars revs.

I have the same problem, but the whining sound is comming from the engine not the speakers. My tranny is on the brink of breaking. Does anyone know if the Whining has to do with the transmission?

Renegade, quick question for the '03 Autos.
Do you feel a slight "shutter" of the car when you release the gas pedal around speeds of 40mph? I feel the car kinda lurch forward a tiny bit after letting go of the pedal around that speed. I think the car is in the 3rd gear, which I think was the problematic gear for the tranny issue. I can't figure out what is wrong and some Acura tech said it was the torque converter locking and unlocking. I think its B.S., cuz no other car I've driven (including loaner Acuras) has done that before. It feels so annoying to get lurched forward in your seat after accelerating.

Agent,
Yes, I do feel that slight shutter, at speeds of 40 and up when accelerating hard and then letting off the gas. I do not think that the 03 Auto Cl-S trannies have an issue, even though many people on this board probably disagree. I havent heard of an auto 03 tranny breaking yet, and Im sure some of the members of this site have had many miles put on there 03's. Therefore, I am not really worried that the whining sound has to do with the engine or tranny, I was just worried, that I might be losing power or something. I mainly say this, because I raced my friends 01 Toyota Avalon, like a 8.3 0-60 and even though I had some wheel spin and he might of got a better jump I only had him by maybe a car and a half at 60. Therefore, I thought the whining sound might of been an issue with the complete power I should be getting out of the car.

I get the whine once in a while... but it only seems to happen when the car is cold. I do not have any shutters in the car (thank god) at any speed. I actually just noticed the whine about 2 weeks ago, but I usually have the radio turned up... so I just may have been missing it....

i have an 03 type-s, and it feels like the tranny slips or downshifts incorrectly every once in a while. usually occurs at speeds from 40-80mph. im pretty sure its not the converter because the downshifts are pretty harsh. they only last for a second though. dont know what the hells going on. freaks me out because it mostly happens when im on the freeway. i got a little over 10,000 miles on it now, and im just waiting for the tranny to blow. kinda sucks since i love the car so damn much. oh yeah, i havent noticed any whine yet...but ill be listening for it now.

Are you sure the 03 Auto Tranny's arent fixed? I mean I havent heard of anyones tranny blowing yet for 03's. Yes I sometimes experience that harsh downshift but prob 4 times in 3750, so its not a big deal. I hope that whining sound which is not very apparent, just gotta listen for it, is normal.

im not sure if the 03 tranny's are fixed either. from other posts on the board ive heard both yes and no. also, those short downshifts that i mentioned occur with about the same frequency as yours (renegade).

Everything for me is stock, havent touched the car, so I guess Im running all OEM accessories. Can you please describe in more detail what an alternator whine is, and how it affects the car.

If your rear brakes are going out, you will hear the whining which is the metal clip from the pad. It should get louder over time and will sound more when the brakes are applied and less but still when the brakes are not applied. It will be pretty loud in reverse too.

My new transmission makes a whining sound. It kinda sounds like I'm supercharged
I just had the dealer note it, and if anything goes wrong they'll fix it, as always.

I read, in another thread that they whinning noise if heard on the left hand side...could be the alternator. When one person had it replaced, it fixed the issue.

I honestly have only heard it 3 or 4 times. The only mods I have are an intake and exhausts... both of which have been installed for over a year. In addition.... it only happens on acceleration.. never when braking....
I'm due for my 30k tune up soon.... I'll mention it to PAA to see if it's a big deal or not. They're awesome... so they will know what's up.

i got an 03 auto, it does make some weird downshifts sometimes too, but no whining noise. the extended warantee says these downsfifts are normal. my salesman told me the 03 autos were fixed though. i hope my tranny dont go cause i got a cai and headers goin on next week, i dont want them to void my warantee and say they wont fix it.
