Whining noise, what is it?
I've been hearing a faint whining noise the last couple of weeks. It's independent of the climate control (ON or OFF). At first I thought it was only 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear that were doing it, but after I got home today I threw it in neutral and rev'd her up... sure enough, a whining noise from around 2000 RPMs to 3500 RPMs. The frequency of the whine gets higher as the RPMs get higher. I think it is most likely inaudible after 3500 RPMs because of a combination of the engine noise and the frequency being too high to hear.
What is this noise? I seem to remember a few posts in the past about a whining noise, but I could find any of the discussions with the search.

Tranny.......get your fluid changed ASAP. I had it happen in my auto when i had it. During the summer months some of the fluild had burned off and once i got it replaced it was gone. However, there are some who have had replacement trannys and have the issue as well.

No headers, so that isn't it.
I checked my fluid level and color. The level is above the second hole on the stick. Color is a light brownish color, which is almost indentical in color to my gf's Matrix tranny fluid with the same number of miles (15k). I also watched the fluid on the paper tower, it didn't spread out too far, maybe 5mm at the most. Do you really think it's the transmission fluid?
Another question, does Honda ATF smell differently than other ATF's (like Toyota for example)? Cuz my transmission fluid has a much stronger smell (kinda plasticy smelling actually) than the ATF out of the Toyota.
I also forgot to mention. The noise happens when the car is both cold and warmed up.

Those posts you remember are from me. I have a 03 Cl-S, and I hear the whining noise in between the same range. I dont think it is a problem

I have the whining noise but only when I'm driving in first second, and third, then the engine noise drowns it out. i've only had it when I got my tranny replaced and you kinda have to pay attention for it. It sounds a little like a sound the speakers would make, but it is coming from the car. sounds kinda cool though. if you have any erratic shifts or abnormal behavior, then have it checked, otherwise the dealer is going to make up an excuse about it not to fix it.

Here's a better one. Better focus taken under white light, not yellow-
Ignore the dark schmaggle on the bottom left side of the spot. The right side is the color you should be looking at.

No erratic shifts or abnormal transmission behavior so far. If my fluid was bad, wouldn't my transmission be complaining?
