mine was making that noise just a few days before my tranny went out. not sure if it was related, but when i got the new tranny, the noise was gone too.

same symptoms as you . a whiny WHEEEEEEEEE noise when i accelerate

It could be a vacuum leak.

If you hear whining from your engine its nothing to worry about... your car is female... just ignore it :D :D :D :D

Nicky Pass 03-02-2002 07:46 PM

Do you have a CAI?

HellaWhat 03-03-2002 05:35 AM

Like Nicky pass said, it may be the CAI.... U can hear a lot of things when ur stock airbox isn't there to muffle noise :)

Maybe someone snuck a supercharger in there :)

goldtypeSnvb 03-08-2002 05:30 AM

nope no intake , but the vacuum line is a good possibility well thnx for the suggestions Jeremiah

OMG!!! Mine started making that same whine 4 days ago after taking off hard with a cold engine! I am completely obsessed with figuring out all of the circumstances of when it does it so the dealer can tell me that they "don't hear anything out of the ordinary" - they never hear anything!

It's the tranny... Torque Converter bearings are going...

well friday my car went in to acura to be diagnosed the tranny was shifting very hard and sometimes didnt want to shift at all so i dropped it off and they gave me a corolla rental (gag) but anyway its better than walking and good news for me is that they have 3 cl-s at the same dealer with the same problem so they will be proficient by the time they get to mine. Another one bites the dust :(

WELL YESTERDAY I GOT MY CAR BACK AND IT IS RUNNING BEAUTIFULLY AND AFTER ONLY ONE WEEK OFF THE ROAD. THE ACURA DEALER ACTUALLY IMPRESSED ME FOR ONCE THE WHINING NOISE IS GONE AND THE CAR SEEMS A LOT SMOOTHER THAN BEFORE.

Well, what was the problem and what did they do to fix it? I still have that whining noise but everything else seems to be in perfect order.

Nicky Pass 03-17-2002 09:56 AM

There are soooooo many things in an engine compartment that could possibly make noise.

goldtypeSnvb 03-18-2002 04:11 AM

THEY REPLACED THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION AND THE CAR IS RUNNING VERY SMOOTH AND THE WHINING NOISE IS GONE. THEY TOLD ME THERE IS A CASE # ON IT , DOES ANYONE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THAT MEANS? THNX IN ADVANCE.
JEREMIAH

Wow! Sorry that happenend, but glad your car is running well. I am going to just crank up the volume on the stereo until either the car dies or it goes in for it's scheduled servce in 2K more miles.

I told you guys MONTHS ago that the service manager at my dealer said they get at least two CLs a month coming in with tranny problems.
