One thing I don't get...
So you suck all the oil out... You still have to crawl under and change the filter, correct?
I like the idea, but it doesn't seem to me like you're making things easier, as you still need to get underneath...
Or am I missing something?

Not with the CL, since we can just turn the wheel and take out the filter. With any other car, I suppose u still have to get underneath to get the filter.

Seems like if you have shavings or other things in your oil the best way to make sure they are removed is draining oil out from the bottom. hopefully our cars won't have that. I just use the coupons I get and let the dealer do it. last one was for $9.99 from one dealer but another dealer honored it. I don't have a garage.

This concept, especially as a reason to not vacuum out the oil, never makes sense to me:
1) If you have metal filings in your oil, you've got more problems then a simple oil change will solve.
2) How would draining out the oil be superior then vacuuming it out? Vacuuming out the oil actually removes more oil then draining, and the vacuum action should actually suck up any sludge or 'filings' that are trapped or stuck against the pan floor.
If some particulate is truly stuck against the pan I fail to see what advantage gravity drain would make over vacuum draining. If it's stuck, it's stuck.
I've yet to see a worthy arguement for gravity draining over vacuum draining, except in the few brands of cars that the vacuum hose cannot reach all the way to the pan (eg: Subaru has a baffle that prevents the hose from touching the pan)

I find the biggest benefits are
1. Clean up is a breeze. If you drain into a pan, you have to transfer from the pan to the bottle via a funnel (risk spilling all over). With the oil boy, you have a built in pourer that you can pour into your empty bottle(s).
2. No need to take of oil pan bolt eliminating the risk of stripping or cross threading the bolt.
I use the oil boy on my other two cars and I do have to get under the vehicle. The other two vehicles are SUV’s so I don’t have to drive up ramps.

With all the tranny problems these cars have, anyone consider using it for their tranny flush, usually if u take the tranny plug out, it never extracts everything, I am considering to use this more so to drain all the tranny fluid out.
This would be an awsome unit for that specifically.
With my washer on the oil drain plug, I usually forget to buy a new one for every oil change so I usually file it down smooth and evenly because its metal and just re-torque it back on an dmake sure its tight enough to crush it, I usually do that with most oil changes for honda/acuras.

BTW, the ATF fill plug can be a monster to get off.

Can't you refill the atf fluid through its dipstick?!
You don't have to take off the whole drain pan do you?!
I guess I'll bring the car out to get the tranny flushed.

You can, just make sure you have something that will fit in the tube before you start.

Does it seem like the end of the nozzle can reach all the way to the lowest point in the oil pan? Maybe one of you guys with this device could try opening the drain bolt after you have sucked out the oil to see if ALL the oil really got sucked out.

Yes, only a few drops comes from gravity draining after complete vacuum evacuation.

I usually just take out the oil drain plug, let it drip the crap out of it for like half an hour, then pour in 1 litre of oil, and then walk away for about 20 minutes, let that oil that i poured into to flow through and drain out again, then strap on the drain plug again, and then put in 5 quarts of oil. I am anal that way=)
I think I'll get my tranny flushed soon, as I was told Honda ATF fluid does not change color when bad, I'll change it every 20,000 kilometers, or flush it i mean.

if any of you guys have an amex card and got that wishlist coupon booklet thingie, it has a $15 off coupon for west marine. it would bring the oil extractor price down to $35+tax.

I've read as much of threads related to Oil Extractor and oil change as I can. From the threads on best way to do oil change, changing the oil hot (after it has reach operating temperature) is the way to go. So my question is, for the people using the Oil Boy Extractor to change their oil, are you guys changing it hot? Can the Oil Boy handle it?!?
