i guess the way it looks the hand one well thats self explanitory. the pnuematic one, since it looks different do you need the hand one also for the reserviour. just an observation

Go to any marine store and they will have an oil changer for ~$60. These things are common in the boating community. That is where I bought mine.

How do you know when all 5 quarts are out of the car? Is there a place to measure?

The container that holds the used oil is marked with lines. I think mine has both quarts and liters.

I have never had a problem (only used it twice though) so far. My Isuzu Trooper (winter unit) has more the 5 quarts so I had to stop the suction, (by pressing a relieve valve), empty to tank, and then suck the remaining oil out. This one has a nice handle and spout to pour the used oil into other containers (like Gallon jugs or Liquid Laundry jugs or Windshield Washer Jugs...)

There's a list of cars this will not work on. Where ever you purchase this from (there are a number of sites), you should be able to find the list of cars it will not work on. There are not that many.

it'll work for all of our cars. i just want to change my oil myself like i used to,we rent and i have a shed/garage where the car barely fits in and i don't wanna do it on the street, and crawl under teh car

I have the exact same one stejus has.

These pumps will NOT work on dry sump cars (Porsche), but we have nothing to worry about.

Change you oil with no mess and daily clothes is why I bought this system. Plus it takes only a few minutes.

so besides the benefit of the mess factor and the little amount of effort, does this thing remove more oil than the traditional way? you gotta get under the car to change the oil filter anyway, right?

No to getting under the car. On the CL, you can turn your steering wheel all the way to the right (I think) and it will expose the oil filter. You have enough room to get your hand to the oil filter (passenger side tire) All you have to do is slide a low profile oil pan under the area and the little oil from the filter will drain. You would be best to put down card board around the area because there may be a little splash into the oil pan (from the oil draining from the oil filter).

The biggest benefit is you don’t get all dirty, it’s a simply clean up process, you don’t risk stripping the drain plug and you don’t risk tightening the drain plug too tight and cracking the washer.

loosening the plug also gets a ton of oil on your hands. i'm not being all gay and not wanting to get oil on my hands but the cleaner i can be the better

For those that use the extractor, do you ever change the crush washer on the oil plug? I realize we're not removing the drain plug, but at some point would the washer start to leak from not being replaced? It's gotta lose it's holding power after a while.

you figure that washer is prob not metal, so it will act like a gasket. and shouldnt leak

Actually, the washers were metal. I used to buy them in bulk from the Acura parts dept for about $.30 each. My mechanic did the oil changes on my CL & TL so I just supplied the washer.

i never changed the oil on any acura i have had so i wasnt sure if they were metal

no... if you do not take the oil plug out, then there is no need to change the crush washer.....Ever.

Doesn't work with Subarus as they have a baffle in the oil pan that prevents complete extraction.

I use a Griot's pneumatic model and think it's awesome.

I did attempt removal from above with the Subaru, and true enough, I had 2 quarts or so left behind. Damn baffle.

And to NSXNEXT's question -- I've only changed the crush washer on my CL once. As long as you don't remove the drain bolt you don't have to change the washer. As the oil pan isn't a moving part, once torqued up correctly, the bolt and washer shouldn't move/loosen.

i fianlly used the oil boy and it worked very well. it took about 10-15 min for all of the oil to be sucked out. it didnt really take much to figure the thing out. it is highly recomended and worked on the accord and rl. and i found out that both cars use the same oil filter
