when to replace/clean CAI filter
when to replace/clean CAI filter
I've had my CAI K&N filter for about 15k miles. When am I supposed to clean/replace it? I believe there's a cleaning kit but mine has so much dirt/mud on it Id rather replace it.
Question: Whats the K&N part number I need to replace it with
Question: Can I just use the new AEI CAI filters? (mines not a AEI CAI however)
Note: It'll be a pain in the a** to remove the bottom molding again to get to this thing

I just cleaned mine this weekend. Get the cleaning kit, it's good for about three uses. Just gently tap/brush out the the large dirt then spray it down with the cleaner. Back flush it out with the hose. It comes out pretty clean. Tap out as much water as you can and let it dry for a little while in the sun. Then spray it down with the k/n oil. It took me thirty minutes. They are made to be cleaned NOT thrown away.
Molding was easy, just remove the front two plugs and gently bend back the flap. I didn'r have to remove the back bolt.

well..
Well you should inspect the intake every 15k miles, but bear in mind that you should not clean it just to clean it (ie. if it's not that dirty don't clean it because afer cleaning the CAI it WILL never perform like it was when it was brand new, and it could actually hurt the performance of the intake).
