What will insurance pay off for 01CLS??

Last week on Friday the 13th, some dumb bitch in an A6 Stationwagon did me the favor of totalling my 01 CLS for me. I have over 21,000 in damages to my car (ill post pics when i get them back).

Has anyone totalled there 01CL? If so, what did you guys get from the insurance company? Mine is paid off, so I should just be getting a check for the entire amount. I estimate around 19-20 because it was certified, but just curious as to what I should expect. I have heard that you should never accept the insurance company's first offer. You should do research to get a higher amount. Anyone got any info...?

Don't know what you will get, but I will tell you DO NOT take the first offer the insurance company offers. Get the local Sunday paper/Auto Trader and clip ads for similar cars. Make sure the offer is enough to replace what you lost. I had friend who lost a Fiat Spyder in a flash flood and it took 4 months for the insurance company to come up with the right amount of $$$. Good luck.

You get the same first offer from the insurance company that everybody gets - wholesale book value. Don't take it. Insist on real world value. You'll need to look for what the car is selling for in the local paper, etc. Also find out the retail book for the car (you won't get it, but it helps while negotiating with the adjuster).

Good luck.

My '01 CL-S had 54,000 miles when I totaled it. I got $19.6 from the insurance company after my $1000 deductible.

it was hard for your friend because Fiats arent sold in usa.

go to KBB and look up Value ... thats where it will be from Ins. Co. they go by KBB also. everytime i got money back for my cars...they would give me more than i would get if i was to sell it.

When my Integra got totalled, the insurance told me that the amount you get is based on what others are buying the car for. They told me to do a search w/ AutoTrader in your area to get an idea of what you'll be getting. They told me that they research the price that people have bought your car for (used) and that should be a guage on what you'll get. I found that to be true. Let us know what the insurance says when you refuse their first offer.

Start tracking Ebay as well. If any sells for the 'right' price, print it out. Newspapers and car sales book. Best is to also take a camera down to a couple Acura dealers and see what they want for an 01

You will get market value ( what the vehicle is actually selling for based on comparable vehicles of similar mileage/options and same year). stay away from Kelleys Blue Book b/c it doesn't mean anything and no one goes by that anymore. Check Edmunds.com for an acurate value. The insuarnce co has to prove the value they have for your car is based on what a comparable vehicle is selling for and they should provide you with a list of comparable vehicles.

I'd be suprised if they didn't go by auction figures + some percentage, but I'm sure each Insurance Co does it a different way.

No matter what, if you feel the end number is too low, go through arbitration...can't hurt to try cause it's YOUR money.

ComptechS,
Just remember, your dealing with her insurance company out of convenience. She's actually responsible for placing your loss. If they give you a hard time, you can always take the lady (or threaten to take the lady) to county court for the full amount. Have your ducks in a row before you meet with the insurance adjuster ... don't take a check unless your happy with the amount! If you aren't happy with the amount, you can also contact the lady that hit you ... she can put pressure on her agent to up the amount. Good luck ... hopefully, you'll get everything you want.

BTW, what insurance company does she have?

I had an 01 maxima modded, allstate reimbursed me for all my mods (didnt even ask for a receipt). I got about 19k for the totaled car with 36k (3 yrs old) miles on it paid 22500 for it . Had 13k to pay off so I ended up on top in the long run and my insurance didnt go up bc it wasnt my fault.

You're lucky they reimbursed you for the mods. Most insurance companies won't cover them at all
