what are some REAL #'s with common mods on the CL-S

Ive read alot of conflicting information on these boards about the effectiveness of such mods as a CAI on the CL-S...it actually LOWERS low end pick-up and torque?? no thank you!! what about the headers....32 HP AT THE WHEEL GAIN???? is that for real? is there a real difference in speed and performance with the comptech headers??? im not about to drop a grand plus installation on something i could hardly notice...by the way, isnt there heat issues with headers? dont you have to load up on heat resistant coating all over the engine bay to keep the heat down? I'd like to work my car a bit but like i said, i dont want to throw money away for weak-ass power and speed gains....for a thousand-plus bucks, i want to be thrown back in my seat!!! i would like to hear some real testimony about the REAL gains with a CAI and or headers...

Ok..

A CAI will nail you about 5-10 hp....depends on the temp outside, condition of the filter, etc... it varies.

Headers are dyno'd by Comptech at 32HP at 6600 (http://www.comptechusa.com/images/dyno/2000CLSplot.pdf)

If you add exhaust+pulleys, you can prolly squeeze another 5-7hp and the up and coming (is it?) RES should add 15-20 across the band.

If you have all these mods combined, you are looking at about 240-250 at the wheels...

CAI does not hurt low end torque. I've had it installed for about 10k miles now it's awesome. There is gain through the powerband! DOn't let anybody tell you otherwise.

Nobody with an AEM cai has complained so unless you go with the injen(some board members have complained) you should be ok. Also if you get the headers you really should get the CAI to feed the engine the air it needs. You will get about 28 horsepower at the wheels and they are well worth it. The only reason why people complain about the Comptech headers is the price. If they paid $100 for 28 hp gain then headers would be all the rave. You won't have heat issues because of headers.

All the modifications that are available for the CLS now massage the engine and thus the power gains will be very good but nothing like a supercharger or a turbo will offer. You could purchase the rick case 3.5L upgrade which most definitely will throw you back into your seat.

I have all those mods, aside from the RES and I dynoed at 226hp to the wheels. With cold weather outside I hit a 14.2@100.

Check out the movies to get an idea what a few mods can do. Taking a ride in a modded car would be even better.

I would say the CAI is worth the money. Contrary to what some people have observed, I noticed most of the power gain in the low and mid-range, as opposed to the high-end (I can't really tell a difference in the high-end, aside from the noise.

So I got more power/torque off the line from the AEM. That works for me.
