What size of tire

Anyone knows what the widest tire that can fit our 2001 CLS stock rim is. Please recommend a brand.

Wouldn't go beyond 225/40R17, but others may bawlk at that....

235/45 will fit but some have reported alignment issues. Without a lip on the wheel, it is tough for the shop to attach the sensors. I will be getting Sumitomo HTR+ based on favorable comments from this site, and my freinds experience with them. They are said to be better than stock in every aspect, with no downsides, and are cheaper!

Within specs - 225 width.
Out of spec - many have put on 235 and there's even a couple that have used 245 series tires. No reports of any tires failing due to being mounted out of spec, but YMMV.
