A cold air intake.......the best $250 you can spend on the car.

The springs were already re-worked for the 6MT. Get an intake! You'll be pushing nearly 240hp @ the wheels

questions...

will an intake really make that much of a difference? if so, can u recomend a specific brand? also how loud will it be? i just got the blk on blk 6spd and im ready to juice it up. also for those comptech springs do u need to change the struts as well?

thanks in advanced.

What's the results like on a base CL?

I'm looking to do my first mod too. But I've got my eye on a rear spoiler that comes already painted. Rims would be nice, but I'm broke

a lot depends on your budget for your mod.
you could pick up headers(1300 bucks without shipping and installation) you pick up 30-40 HP and plenty of low end torque
or you can drop 250 on the Cold air intake like these guys talked about.
personally if it was my car i'd have it between 2 choices
#1 Apexi catback (runs about 700 bucks) you'll pick up a few HP plus i like the looks of it.
#2 Rims and Tires (runs you 1500-2000 bucks)(depending on type of rims, tires, size of rims) rims will make your car look better plus the tires help with handling.
but the choice is yours

Another vote for light wheels and sticky tires. You go for more control with the manual, but the tires are out-of-control (they squeal and like to come loose at the worst times)...

umm.. the headers dont add torque. and the majority of the hp gains are in vtec range.. above 5k rpms

In two parts -- the first uploaded image is a splice of a dead stock TLS (no mods) and header only (92 degrees F). I put this together after a number of people thought that Mike's dyno was a "fluke"/etc...

honestly,if i had it to do over....tires my friend...a set of toyo T1-s 235/45/17 on your stock rims will be the best thing you could do....its simple...you already have more power than the pilots can handle, what good will adding more do...i would do :
tires 650+/-
RES 350+/-
CAI 300 +/-
springs 300+/-
headers 1100 +/-
sways 350+/-
wheels 1000-2000 +/-

my order is based on go fast staright first than worry about handling...some others might move sways and springs way up the list

How is that possible? It has to add torque on the high end at least, otherwise you can't get more hp (it comes from torque and rpm--if redline doesn't move, the only way to produce more hp is more torque). right?

um, maybe just symantics; yeah, it *may* not give more peak torque--and I guess that's what you're saying--but it has to improve the envelope for more high end torque

You must take the plunge. Come to one of the Sacto. meets and you can run with a bunch of cars with headers and see for yourself.

I'd say first thing would be tires. Get your self some sticky Z-rated 235's, it will drastically improve handling, and of the line acceleration.
Then you can go two routes, if you want better handling and appearance, get Comptech springs and sways.
If you crave power, then CAI and headers, both are very effective in this category...
Good Luck!!!

01 CLS
Comptech:
headers, springs,sways
AEM CAI w/bypass
tokico shocks
6000K Phillips bulbs
PIAA 19124's

JL 10w3 w/kenwood 600w
MB Quart RSC 216's front
MB Quart DSD's rear
Phoenix Gold Tantrum 4/600w RMS
