What is the name of the part that controls RPMs when driving on hills?

I know I sound like a retard, But...

What is it in our cars that controls the RPMs when we are driving up/down hills (and Im not talking about the tranny ? )

I have recently noticed that when I go up and down hills my car has been VERY jerky and the RPMs have been shooting up...It has just gotten worse over time - and I don't think its the tranny because I have replaced one already and it just feels different.

I am compiling a list of service needs w/ the car and Id appreciate any help.

Thanks

No idea, but that system is the main reason I sold my Auto CL-S.
Grade Logic is great for going UP hills because it holds the lower gear, but I hate it going DOWN.
I live in a hilly area and I used to have to actually ACCELERATE down some hills because it was holding me back so much.

Grade Logic is not a thing, it is a process in the ECU. So it is not tangible but rather calculations done in the computer. If you are having problems than either the ECU or transaxle is the culprit.
