What kind of times are lightly modded CLS running?
I have a 3.5SE 5-spd Altima, and I am lightly modded. Actually I wouldn't even really consider what I have to be modded, but the car is not the exact same it was from the factory. Here are my two best times so far, both ran on the same day.
R/T...........1.021
60............2.189
330..........6.121
1/8...........9.341
MPH..........75.29
1000........12.122
1/4..........14.455
MPH..........96.73
R/T...........0.879
60............2.207
330..........6.106
1/8...........9.307
MPH..........75.58
1000........12.079
1/4...........14.404
MPH..........97.08
By the way my "light mods" are better tires (Bridgestone Potenza SO3 PP's) on stock wheels, and a timing advance. Otherwise I am stock, I made these runs with full interior, everything still in the trunk, no tire pressure adjustments, and a quarter tank of gas. Weighed at the track and came in at 3186lbs without driver, and 3388lbs with driver.
So lets hear it CLS guys, I specifically say lightly modded because I know there is a crap load of mods available for you guys including a supercharger, I know those guys run low 14's to mid 13's easy. I want to hear from the regular Joe's like me.

I will generalize and say that most autos run 14.8-9+ stock. Lightly modded ones maybe...14.6+
The 6 speeds will run 14.5+ (a few 14.4s) but I'll the 6speeds speak to that.
Sounds like you have a strong car.
Nice 60' for street tires too.

Thanks for the reply Mike. Yeah I am very pleased with my car, I am sure i could've gotten 14.3's out of her, but I had to leave the track 2 runs after my 14.404, on those two runs I slightly flubbed shifts and ran a 14.45 and a 14.47 with 2.1 60fts, so i know if I had nailed those runs I would've been in the high 14.3's.
This site seems kinda slow, then again 19 views and 1 reply isn't slow just silent.
Maybe if I define lightly modded I'll get a few replies.
Lightly Modded:
You have only one or none of the standard performance upgrades like ECU upgrade/reprogram, intake, header, exhaust, lighter wheels, weight reduction, and drag slicks if you have two or more of these, you're modded.
Furthermore once you have a aftermarket supercharger or turbocharger. You're modded.
Things that can be combined, that I still consider to be lightly modded. Better street tires, ECU flashes i.e. timing advance, TSB's, synthetic oil, grounding kit. Basically simple cheap stuff that you do really quick, or logical upgrades like new tires I would consider to be lightly modded.
So now will you guys reply

I think it's possible that the power differences of the Nissan 3.5L engine among its many different platforms aren't as great as Nissan claims. Most likely Nissan doesn't want customers to know that the power output of the Altima, Maxima, G35, and 350Z are virtually identical.

For instance on my 14.404 run I went up against a G35c 6spd, I got him by a car length only because he flubbed his 3rd-4th shift meanwhile as a 5spd I get to stay in 3rd all the way through the line. I still ahd enough on him that even if he didn't flub the shift I would've had him, but thats not the point. Here's the point:
That guy weighed his car and was coming in at 3500, close to 3700 with driver. So I had a 200-300lbs weight advantage which about equals 15-20HP. So Nissan is correct in their HP ratings, it's just that their cars with the higher output VQ's sometimes negate that power with their weight. I know for a fact that the Altima, and a "Enthusiast" aka stripped edition 350Z are the lightest cars with the VQ i Nissan's line-up.
No Altima with the VQ has ever dynoed above 207HP stock, meanwhile G35c's and 350Z's dyno in the 225's-240's all the time. But some of those cars are fully loaded and come in excess of 3400lbs which takes away from some of that power.
Thanks to all you guys who said my car is light and complemented my times.
By January I hope to do exhaust and intake, those are the two biggest choke points in the Altima 3.5. I think once I remedy these situations I should be in the low 14's, possibly 14.1 to 14 flat. it will probably take headers and pulley in addition to I/E to get me into the 13's the way I run, i.e full interior/no tire pressure adjustments just the same way the car is if I was going to the store. I want to be able to say the times I run at the track are the times I would run on the street.
Seems like the Altima and CLS are pretty evenly matched, looks like a drivers race to me. I'm planning to head out to HRP next weekend and try to get 14.3's, any of you Houston/Austin area CLS guys willing to come on out and go head to head?

You know my best, so I wont go into extreme detail. Congrats on the 14.4, thats an awesome time.
You're lucky to be able to stay in 3rd through the traps. Us 6 speed guys have to shift into 4th about 100' before the end, so it's not well timed. I'm sure if our 3rd was a tiny bit taller we could run out 3rd through the traps and maybe drop a tenth, but thats just speculation.
Hasanyone weighed a stock 6 speed CL-S at the track? I wanted to, but the last couple times they didnt have the scale working. I think the CL-S6 is like 3,460lbs without driver, so you have at least a couple hundred pound advantage. :o

Sup man, just over here seeing if I can finally get a run against a CLS. Your time is damn good as well, truthfully i was wondering if that was just because you were a good driver because your car is bone stock. But I am starting to see that you CLS 6-spd guys are solidly in the mid 14's stock, which makes it a good matchup for a 5-spd 3.5SE.

Well, I'm not quite a CLS, and I guess moderately modded. I can't drive and with my crappy 2.25 60'(other Regals can get 2.0X on street tires) I ran a 14.2 @ 97. My car is definately in the 13.8-13.9 range if I can ever learn to drive. That run was my only day at a sea level track, and the way the power came on was different. I also had a full tank of gas and two car seats. The car weighed 3820 at the track scales in Sacramento, CA. I really wish I knew how to drive.

not sure what my 60' was. I'll look for the slip.
And my AEM intake is Scalberts old accord intake rigged for the CL.
I had like 12 runs in about an hour... I think that had something to do with it. My times just kept getting better... then some dude on a bike wrecked and I didn't feel like waiting till they cleaned up the track.
here's my original post after my trip. For some reason I thought the trap speed was higher...

1/4 mile times
went to rockingham strip tonight, it was dead so i got 10 runs in about an hour. temp was 50.
best time was 14.544 @96.58... best part about that was i was against a GTP and he ran a 15.46 @ 87.99.
60ft time on the 14.5 run was 2.312
1/8 9.438@76.79.
no spare tire and very low on gas. tire pressure just under 30. I didn't have a pressure gauge, so i let what i thought was a bunch of air out. Check it when i went to put more air in after i was done.

So it seems like the average is about 14.6 for the 6spds, and the 5spd autos aren't too far off that pace. The gap between 5spd Altimas and 4spd auto Altimas is much bigger.
A stock 5spd Altima would have to pay attention to a CLS no matter what tranny he had in there, since both flavors are solidly below 14.8.
Do you 6spd guys powershift?

All I know is that my '99 2.3CL didn't run better than 16 sec. about 2 months ago.
I know the wind was against us and I'm not too sure how good Mokan (Asbury, MO) is, but I have to admit, I expected better.
I have a fully straight exhaust (with the exception of one resonator), a cool air intake, 8mm plug wires and NGK plugs. I was running this on Nankang N1's (225/18Z35) and was getting a decent amount of grip. My pull off the line was fairly average. My best time was a 16 flat and that was with a .2 second reaction time. (i.e. 4.2 sec..4 sec. is perfect there). What the deal?????
I noticed all night that everything was ok through 1st gear, but when I hit 2nd, no matter how fast, I would drop to 3000rpm and, obviously, with my exhaust set up, I need to maintain Vtec (i.e. 4500+rpm). 3rd and 4th were fine. I know I need this thing tuned...maybe I need it re-geared, too.
ANyways..I just thought this was the right place to bitch about this.
