What the heck are these things?

I was messing with the plasic covers on my engine earlier and I found it easy to take most of it off I put it back on I like it better but what the hell are those things that look like spak plug cover? the ones that require a allen wrench to remove the have rod going down into the engine deeper than I though was possible. What the heck is it? I didn't pull it all the way out so I have no clue what is on the end.

They are located right below the plastic engine covers under the bottom part of the engine cover are 3 bundles of wires running to each one. there are 3 on each side. they probibly are the sparks just gave me a nice little scare when they wern't what I thought they were.

Sounds like you are talking about the coil-packs..... Our cars have a coil pack per cylinder to facilitate a better ignition system...
