I'm moving in about a month cross country, and I would rather get rid of the car locally...but worse comes to worse, I would have to sell it to the Acura dealer. What should I expect for my car?
2002 CL Type-S 29,500 miles (excellent condition)
Kelly's Blue Book says
$18,275
Edmund's TMV says
$17,850
jeez...I can't believe these numbers.

I didn't think my mileage was that bad. 30k in two years? mostly high driven. Back and forth between NYC/PSU/DC/Philly to Pittsburgh.

I'd say $18K for a trade/outright sale...those numbers aren't far off.
Give autotrader a shot, price it a bit above those numbers & it'll sell quick. You should have no problem getting $19K for a quick sale private party.

Dealers typically will only pay you what they can turn around and sell the car for the next day (at auction) or less. These cars did not sell well to the general public and that is why Acura quit trying. Most dealers don't want a car that is hard to sell to the masses.
The black book wholesale value is the value that dealers typically place on a trade in or used vehicle purchase because it reflects what the cars are bringing at auction.
The current black book value (Alabama edition) for your car (if no Nav) is $16800 average (normal wear and tear), $18,200 clean, and $18,800 extra clean (like new condition including tires, etc.).
You will then need to deduct for what is considered to be "high" mileage. Subtract nothing if the condition is average. Subtract $325 if it is clean, $675 if it is extra clean. This is the mileage adjustment for 25k - 30k miles. For 30k - 40k miles those figures are: $300 ave., $625 clean, and $975 extra clean! Modifications can hurt the trade in value, and rarely help - remember that most of those who are buying cars don't care about, or don't want modifications - it's just us car crazy guys and gals that do.
I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but if you need to unload the car quickly, you will be doing very good to get this money or more. I agree with listing the car in auto trader if you have the time. I hope this helps. Good luck.
