what happens if I buy a CL-S out of my state?
Hi
I want to get my acura in NJ (Park avenue acura). I live in NY and its only 25 miles away from my place so I figured to go there to see if I could bargain. But, is there a problem regarding taxes and other things. I figure I got there because I have not heard anything good about NY dealers; and Im hearing very good things about Park Avenue.
Thanks

My father bought his ML320 from Delaware... we live in PA> There wasn't a problem. The dealer handled the whole registration process.

Check with your insurance company to make sure the car will be covered. then you should receive temp plates (the same as you would in New York). When you register the car in New York you will pay the sales tax..

This is easy. Talk with Park and ask them how it works. They sell cars to NY residents everyday of the week. Right Wayne?
BTW, if he doesn't respond I'll post a long one. I bought in NJ and live in Mass. I have to park away from others since my NJ car doesn't get along with the Mass cars

No problem. I live in CT and bought my CL in RI. It's done all the time. You pay sales tax in the state where the car is registered. Dealer in RI handled all the paperwork/registration.

A vehicle is just like any other personal property subject to your state laws like insurance, taxes, and registration/inspect. All of which you have to pay and pay and pay some more.

Just doesn't seem fair does it? I mean, ya buy a car in a different state with a potentially lower or no sales tax added on to the purchase price, bring it back to your home state and Wham! I don't understand that, if you buy something from autocarparts.com in CA and live in NY, ya don't pay taxes. Obviously ya don't register a CAI but what's the fundamental difference? Just wonderin' that's all.

State law. Nothing more, nothing less. Unfortunately residents in some states do pay sales tax when they mail order from another state.
Your state government can change this if they wanted to. Call your congressman.
Honestly, there is no real basis for any of it. Some places you pay taxes on clothing, others you don't. Some places you pay taxes on certain types of food, others you don't. A car is a big ticket item and I suspect your state is not going to miss out on such an opportunity. Except with a car, it gets taxed over and over and over unlike most other goods.
