What is DOHC?
DOHC = Dual OverHead Cam, right? Isn't Vtec the same type of thing? The second cam moves over to engage different timing or whatever to increase power, but reduce efficiency. So Vtec is just a vendor term for DOHC, right?

Dohc means dual overhead cam. One cam controls the intake valves and the one controls the exhaust valves. That isn't the same thing as vtec. Vtec is when hydraulic lifters change to a more aggresive lobe on the cam.

i have a question, so if it's SOHC but has 2 heads, it then has 2 cams right? and if it's DOHC and has 2 heads it has 4 cams? I just saw an article on the Aston martinc db7 vanquish....it's a v12 w/ quad cam...so it really has 8 cams?

Can I prove it, no. But I have had the term "quad" used this way before with Ferrari 12 cylinder engines (V-12 and Boxer configurations).

DOHC= Dual overhead cam, inline engine 2 cams, one for intake valves, one for exhaust.
V engine 2 cams each bank. VTEC= camshaft timing is electronically controlled providing more lift duration or less depending on circumstances.
